Western Crete

Just returned from a lovely week exploring Crete - there was a great balance of activities and experiences all wonderfully managed by our guide Mohamed who was exceptional - friendly and professional and coped very well with some unexpected circumstances!

The hotels were both very good for different reasons but we particularly enjoyed the Hotel Idi for its fabulous location and it’s feeling of peace - a great holiday and made us really want to see more of Crete.

Western Crete

Really enjoyed this holiday which was our first with Riviera. The tour content was excellent. My personal favourite was the Botanical Park. The Eleftheria Hotel was very smart. We thought more 4 star than 3. The rooms at the Hotel Idi are more basic but the location is lovely and the food was excellent. The visit to the farm was much enjoyed. It gave the holiday an additional dimension. Our thanks to the tour manager, Mohamed, who looked after us very well and our excellent driver, Heracles. We will definitely recommend Rivera and travel with you again.

Western Crete

Without doubt the holiday to Crete was one of the best of our 9 Riviera holidays. It was made interesting from start to finish mainly due to the infectious enthusiasm of our very attentive and extremely knowledgeable tour manager, Mohamed, who ensured that everyone gained the maximum from the trip. The itinerary included a wide variety of different experiences. Chania contrasted to Archaeological sites like Knossis and the Heraklion Museum which were astounding, whilst the more recently created Botanical Park was equally impressive in its terraced construction within a mountain valley bowl homing plants and trees from across the world. Add in breathtaking mountain drives, gorge walks, pretty coastal villages, a very good choice of hotels and you could say you had it all. True, but the icing on the cake was the trip to Kamihis Farm, where, after a ride in the back of a truck, we had the opportunity to milk goats, make and cook bread, mix with a variety of animals, eat with the family and experience life as Cretans had for hundreds of years. This was definitely a holiday to remember.

Riviera At Their Best

This is a varied, interesting and well balanced holiday. The tour manager, Jesse, was excellent as was our local guide, Ireni in Knossos and then in the archaeological museum in Heraklion, superb knowledge and so enthusiastic. It is hard to find a highlight there are so many but along with our day in Knossos I have to mention the Botanical Park, the Imbros Gorge and the family run Kamihis Farm. However you need to be aware that the botanical park has a fair amount of up and down walking and whilst the gorge is downhill it is very rocky underfoot and not to be taken lightly. The farm is such good fun, making pies and milking goats guided by such friendly people. The hotels we couldn’t fault. The Eleftheria was very comfortable and modern and where Alex the barman is second to none. The Idi Hotel is still enjoyable in lovely surroundings just, shall we say, more Greek! Well done Riviera this holiday is a gem.

Western Crete

We have just returned a wonderful holiday in Western Crete! We really enjoyed the contrast between the 2 hotels – the first hotel (5 nights) was situated near a beach in a small resort, whilst the second hotel (2 nights) was in a tiny village in the countryside. Both hotels were great, and the food at both was delicious.

The trips were interesting and varied – they encompassed historic sites, beautiful harbour towns (we particularly liked Chania), lovely gorge walks and impressive botanical gardens. We loved the visit to the farm – a real delight!

Our guide Jesse was knowledgeable and professional throughout.

Western Crete

Just returned from the 7 day tour of Western Crete. One of the best tours we have done. The tour manager Michele was first class 10 out of 10. She had a strict seat rotation policy which was welcomed by all as fair and stopped all seat rushes. She was very knowledgeable and knew instinctively when to talk on the coach and when to let you rest. I Would recommend the tour to anyone. There are some walks but always an alternative if you don't want to do them.
