I have recently returned from this tour, my first with Riviera, and am so impressed with the organisation.
I was hesitant about booking the tour, partly because of all the terrible reports coming from the area, and partly because I was travelling alone. I needn’t have worried on either count. We neither suffered nor saw any hostility or aggression, and the group were such lovely people, I felt very comfortable with them.
I have to praise our excellent tour manager, Norman. His enthusiasm for the country was very evident, and nothing was too much trouble for him, far beyond the call of duty. The welcome he received from the staff of each hotel says a lot.
Our local guide, Dror was also excellent. Very knowledgeable, but also lively and interesting. He knew when to talk and when to let us just absorb the atmosphere, a talent many guides lack! Hassan, our guide to Bethlehem was also excellent, skilfully steering us through the crowds in the Church of the Nativity.
I am amazed at how much we managed to fit into a week’s tour. There was so much I wanted to see and experience, and we managed it all, and more. I particularly loved the peace and beauty of the Galilee, in contrast to the hustle and bustle of Jerusalem.
I shall never forget this tour, and I am so glad I did it. We all had different reasons for taking it, some religious, some historic, some just for the love of travel, but I venture to say that we all came home more than satisfied.
If like me you would like to go, but are feeling nervous, I urge you to go for it. You will be so glad you did!
