Georgia: The Crossroads of Europe & Asia

We have just returned from our tour of Georgia and wanted to share our thoughts. It is a country we knew little about and so the week there has been a real journey of discovery. Tbilisi is a charming city with lots to see in the old and new parts - don't miss the exquisite artefacts in Treasury at the National Museum - and we were very interested to observe a service at the Cathedral. There is quite a lot of travelling involved to reach destinations outside the capital but all were really worthwhile to visit and the journeys were comfortable thanks to our excellent driver. We sampled some excellant wines on estate visits, visited monasteries and castles perched on hilltops and travelled through the High Caucasus mountains for spectacular views. A highlight for us was the cave city of Vardzia. Our accommodation throughout was good and the meals provide were on the whole fine. Thanks to our knowledgeable and organised tour manager, Maggie, we were well looked after and everything went smoothly. In addition the local guide, Ie, travelled with us throughout the tour and provided lots of information about all aspects of Georgia. Without doubt, a very an enjoyable holiday!
