Classical Italy Tour
I’m recently home from my first holiday with Riviera and just want to thank everyone involved. The hotels and transport were excellent, comfortable and efficient. But the star of the show was most definitely our tour guide Vanessa (I’m sorry, I didn’t get her surname) - her humour and knowledge made the whole experience flow. She had us rolling in the isles with her jokes, singing happy birthday and ordering our food in Italian and went way above expectations on our free day in Rome, where she took several of us by bus to the Trevi fountain before letting us loose in Rome, well equipped with her excellent directions.
Many, many thanks to you all.

Now that we’ve recovered from all the walking around Italy on our wonderful holiday with you I felt that I should e-mail you to say that our tour guide, Vanessa, was amazing! I have spent over 35 years in teaching, have trained many young teachers, but have very rarely found such an inspirational young teacher as Vanessa!
You should pay her double because she is so good!

My wife and I have just returned home after a wonderful holiday in Italy. My wife has used Riviera Travel before and so suggested we booked this holiday. I was impressed with everything from beginning to end and our guide Norman was great. We’ll certainly use Riviera Travel again and recommend it to others.

We have just returned from our second Riviera tour and we enjoyed this one just as much. It is quite simply the best way to cram so much into a taster holiday for a given region. Riviera organise everything for you and their choice of hotels and excursions is excellent. Both hotels we stayed in in Arezzo and Rome were luxurious and friendly; the food was excellent. Our tour manager, Vanessa was extremely good, a bilingual resident of Rome who was caring, thoughtful and a real livewire. She never stopped working and we loved her sense of humour. The local guides that we had at Florence, Siena, Arezzo and Rome were very good and the whole week cohered into a memorable experience. It was full on with a lot of walking but we were up for that and we have come home with a real taste of the region, a desire to return and we are already choosing our next Riviera holiday - excellent value !

Have just returned from our second tour with Riviera. Could not fault it, our guide Carlotta was knowledgeable, helpful, friendly and always available. The Hotels in both Tuscany and Rome were first class, the tours of the various cities with local guides excellent, it meant you learned so much more about the places you visited. Can’t wait for next tour.

I have just returned from the Classical Italy tour and have had an amazing time. I could not have asked for a better holiday. The excursions, hotels and food were fabulous. Having several food allergies I was concerned about the food during the tour however the staff at the hotels were happy to cater to my requirements. My thanks also go to the tour guide Norman, he was fantastic. He was more than happy to go over and beyond to ensure that we had a fantastic holiday whilst making sure that holidaymakers of all abilities were kept happy. Thank you so much Norman for all your help.

My sister, her partner and I did the Classical Italian Tour on May 16-23, 2016. It was simply marvelous to have such knowledgeable and very caring tour manager, Giovanna, with driver Antonio. Everyday was fun-filled and gratifying experience. The local guides in Arezzo, Siena, Florence and Rome were phenomenally knowledgeable and made the tour even more enjoyable (my apologies for not remembering all their names). There was nothing in this trip that I would like to change or improve. Of course, a big part of this successful trip were the British nationals who were with us. I’d probably re-do this tour again with this company and go back to Hotel Minerva. 5-stars for this company.

So impressed by the tour. Our guide Antonio Rosso was superb and it was him that really made our trip so enjoyable. He had an inexhaustible knowledge of the country and always went the extra mile to ensure we were having a good time. The only point I would make is that the second hotel we stayed in should provide free wi-fi as it was very expensive! Other than that a really great time and cannot wait to book with you again!

Thank you for a memorable trip, first time with you as well. Tour Manger (Denise) was excellent and we felt that all round we had had our money’s worth and seen all we expected. Our only comment was that a Coliseum/Forum optional tour could also be included.

Another great tour with Riviera and as well as all the ‘big names’ it was great to see places we would not think to visit if just booking independently with a flight to Rome: Arezzo is a gem. Norman was a joy and made herding cats look easy with unfailing good humour. Wonderful group (Just want to say a special goodbye to travelling companion Christine Hart as we were both ‘solos’ but missed her at Gatwick). Will be travelling with Riviera to Croatia next week and know I can be confident in my expectations; thanks again to all, including the Back Office.

I must thank Rivera for a wonderful holiday spent in Tuscany and Rome. It was really well organised and our tour manager was superb and looked after us really well. The hotels were very good and the food excellent. The guided tours were very interesting and gave me a flavour of places I would like to re-visit at some time in the future. Many thanks Riviera. I would definitely recommend you to friends and family and will look forward to booking another holiday with you in the future. Travelled on 21/06/2012

A friend and I have just come back from the Classical Italy tour. It was the first time I had travelled with Riviera and I have to say the holiday was wonderful. The trip was well organised and our Tour Manager was fantastic, he knew each area well and was able to give us great advice on what to see when we were left to our own devices. He also managed the whole holiday well from the time he met us at the airport until the time he saw us safely to check-in on the way home. I can’t give the holiday or the Tour Manager enough praise, so much was packed into the week’s travel. Travelled on 29/04/2012

This was my first tour and my first Riviera Travel experience. Normally I prefer to manage my own holidays but Riviera Travel was recommended by members of my family, who have been on several of their tours. The tour got off to a shaky start because of flight delays, due to volcanic ash. However Riviera still had someone to take charge of us when we eventually arrived late in Rome. The whole cultural experience was excellent and the visits to Siena, Florence, Assisi and then Rome were absolutely superb. Our Tour Manager was excellent and was extremely efficient and anticipated all we needed throughout the week. With there easy manner, good organisational skills, wealth of knowledge and constant good humour, they made a very significant contribution to the success of the trip. The two hotels we stayed in were comfortable and friendly and the guides that were chosen for each of the visits were very knowledgeable and communicated well. Well done Riviera. I will certainly be considering other holidays with you and will recommend your Company to my friends. Travelled on 17/05/2010

This was our first Riviera Travel experience having been recommended by friends who had previously taken the same tour. What a holiday it proved to be. The whole trip was excellent, the tours to Florence, Siena, Assisi and finally Rome was absolutely superb. The hotels, guides, coaches and drivers - we ran out of adjectives, even for our hostess was efficient, happy, friendly, helpful and most of all very professional. Then of course came the Icelandic volcano! We were all worried about how we were going to get home, but we need not have worried. Riviera had it all worked out and whilst 2 days on a coach may not be everyone’s idea of a holiday, we had a wonderful extension to our holiday, everyone enjoying the scenery of central Italy and Switzerland. There was obviously the unseen help given by the office staff who were in constant communication with our tour manager. Well done Riviera, we will certainly be using you again and will recommend your Company to our friends. Travelled on 13/04/2010

I visited ‘Classical’ italy with Riviera Travel in September 2012 and had a fabulous holiday (my second with Riviera) ... great companions, good hotels, good food and good weather - all topped off by the wonderful tour manager, our very efficient tour manager and her knowledgeable local guides who brought the sights alive with their combination of fact and humour. The three coins went into Rome’s Trevi fountain to ensure that I return - there is still so much to see and do! An extra day would have been welcome. Travelled on 16/09/2012

The tour was hugely enjoyable. Very well organised and well balanced. The places visited were wonderful, not just Florence and Siena, but Arezzo is a gem. The local guides were first class and our Riviera guide, Christopher, was fantastic He was informative in a humorous way. He made sure everyone was okay and clear about arrangements and was vigilant in very crowded places. I will certainly book with the company again and recommend others do the same.

This was the first time we had travelled with Riviera ,but it won’t be the last. Norman, the tour manager was full of useful, interesting information and tips, and all the local guides we had were excellent, informative, and often had amusing stories to tell about the towns where they lived. The hotel Minerva in Arezzo was small, modern and friendly with good food and reasonably priced drinks. It was also in easy walking distance of the pretty hill town of Arezzo itself, for independent exploring. We had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday, and will be booking with Riviera again.

I have just returned from your cultural Italy tour and want to tell you how much I (and everyone else on the trip) enjoyed it. It was cleverly arranged with good tours and events every day; the tour manager (Anton) was superb, the first hotel in Arezzo excellent. The group was very friendly and everyone enjoyed the holiday. I for one will go on a Riviera cultural trip again and I think most of the others will as well. Well done.

Anton Alexander was our Tour Guide and he was very pleasant, informative, organised and definitely went the extra mile in arranging everything to enable us to have a relaxing holiday. Well as relaxing as possible when you are rushing around to see everything possible in the amazing places we were taken. It was our first Riviera experience and we will definitely be back…..............

We have just returned from you Classical Italy tour which we enjoyed very much. Sienna, Florence, Arezzo, Assisi were all very different and interesting followed by a very enjoyable 3 days in Rome. Our tour guide Rebekka was very informative and helpful, and the sights we saw will be in our memories for a long time to come. This is our third Riviera holiday, and we have another one booked for Sri Lanka in September. Well done on your excellent organisation.
Review by Mike & Carol Reeves on 28 June 2013
We were first time Riviera users and were very pleased with this holiday. The Itinerary, though hectic, was excellent in terms of places visited, travelling times and the organisation. The Hotel Minerva in Arezzo was very good (food, helpful staff, comfortable quiet rooms) and for Rome, the Domus Mariae was also good. Our tour guide, Tony Rosso, was a gem. He “managed” us very well from start to finish and in such a friendly and efficient way. He was enthusiastic about Italy and Rome in particular (his own home) and went that extra mile when asked for advice/assistance with planning our free time. The individual city guides in Florence, Sienna, Arezzo and Rome were also very informative.
We have no qualms about recommending this trip to others and would certainly use Riviera again.

If you want to see some wonderful places in Italy this is the tour for you, our tour manager Sergio was fantastic he was so knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour and was always there to help or advise. The tour is hectic and you do get a little tired but the sites and different places make it worthwhile. There was 4 of us travelled together all in our 60’s and we had a fabulous time but the highlight was the drive up to Assisi and the town itself. First time with Riviera but not the last.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our recent Classical Italy tour. The flight and coach arrangements worked perfectly. The hotel accommodation in Arezzo and Rome was clean, most comfortable, of a high standard and the meals were very good. Our guide, Norman, looked after us exceptionally well. He was well informed about the tour, took time to ensure everyone was coping well and went out of his way to make the tour interesting, enjoyable and without problems.

We have just returned from this tour which we thoroughly enjoyed. The tour was hectic but interesting. The guide in each town was knowledgeable with a good sense of humour. Despite the traffic swirling all around us, we felt we were back in the Middle Ages. Norman was a good, enthusiastic and caring guide who went the extra mile for us. Thanks for the great tour

What a wonderful holiday - our third with Riviera. This one beats the rest, down to the excellent tour manager, Dina, who really knew her subject without the use of notes. She had a great sense of humour: ‘Wash your hands and comb your hair’ - an interesting euphemism! Everyone really appreciated her. Well done Riviera. We enjoyed the camaraderie amongst the group. As an artist I enjoyed Rome, Florence, Sienna and Assisi and their frescos. I even got to talk to artists restoring them. We found the back streets of Rome surprisingly good and inexpensive for eating out. After this experience we will definitely be booking with Riviera next year.

We have just returned from a hectic but very enjoyable week in Tuscany and Rome. It was our first with Riviera so did not know what to expect but I would have no problems recommending them. Valerie our tour guide was excellent. Very helpful, extremely knowledgable, tireless with a great sense of humour. Hotel Minerva in Arezzo was very good with nice size rooms, good food and pleasant staff. The room at the Universo hotel in Rome was much smaller but had everything we needed other than safety deposit box which was available from reception with a deposit of 50 euros. The local guides at each stop were excellent with a vast amount of local knowledge which you would not find in a local tour guide book. I feel that three days in Rome would have been better. as this would give you more time to do the sites at a slower pace, rather than feel that you were on a mission each day to complete the many monuments etc. That being said loved the whole trip.

We have just returned from the most amazing holiday. The Classical Italy tour takes in some really stunning towns and cities with many points of interest and very knowledgeable and personable local tour guides. Both hotels were comfortable and the dinners in the Hotel Minerva were very nice - we very much enjoyed sampling local Tuscan cuisine. The tour was well planned and there was a great balance between time spent on organised activities with the tour group and free time to explore as you saw fit. Our tour manager Julia was fantastic and went out of her way to adapt arrangements to accommodate my gran in her wheelchair. She was highly organised, very friendly and approachable with a high level of knowledge and good sense of humour. We were lucky to tour with a very lovely group of people. We wouldn’t hesitate to tour with Riviera again. Thank you.

This is the second tour I have taken through Riviera, and the high standard has certainly been maintained. The tour guide was superb - a mine of information, helpful, and friendly. The itinerary was first class with plenty of free time, so you did not feel that you could not do the things you wanted to. The hotels were very nice, although you would need to be fairly fit to walk from the Minerva to the centre of Arezzo. I only wish that I had discovered Riviera sooner, and I have already booked another tour for 2014. Highest possible rcommendation.

What an amazing Classical tour of Italy! From start to finish we were so impressed by the professionalism of Riviera. There were a few “blips” on the tour but the guides handled them with confidence and good outcomes as far as we were concerned. Christopher made our tour. He was very knowledgeable about the area and told us just enough to make us want to discover more.living in Italy he had a real understanding of how things work there and this local knowledge helped our tour go more smoothly. The coach driver was very competent and he tried hard to drop and pick us up in crowded areas by parking the coach in tiny spaces! The city guides were all passionate about their home cities and again gave us so much interesting and relevant information. The Vatican visit was rather like a football match but that is no reflection on the guides-it is how it is! The hotels were always going to be very different due to their location. However we felt bot h were okay for our needs. The staff at Minerva couldn’t have been more pleasant and the food was of a good standard.we had never visited Italy before or been on a European tour but thanks to riviera we hope to do both again in the near future. Keep up the good work and high standards of your company- you are doing a great service.

My wife and I have recently returned home after our first experience of a guided tour and we would like to thank Riviera Travel but more especially our guide Valerie for a wonderful time. Valerie looked after everybody extremely well and nothing was too much bother. She gave us good advice concerning personal safety, what to buy and what to avoid, the best places to visit and the best things to see. Please pass on our thanks to her and we will certainly check out Riviera Travel next time we are looking for a holiday.

Have just returned from a wonderful holiday and have to commend Riviera for the organisation and efficiency that we experienced. The guided walking tours of Siena, Florence, and Rome were superb and the guides Antonella, Luca and Nicolletta were brilliant (and funny). The tour manager / guide Giovanna was also very good and was so helpful in pointing out things like good value restaurants to visit when in Rome (nothing was too much trouble for her). Our driver was good and having been allocated to front seats (by virtue of booking early last year) it was easy to see how well he anticipated any road traffic ahead and took immediate action smoothly.
One tip I could make is that if you do smoke as both I and my wife do, the hotel Minerva in Arezzo has 50% of the rooms as smoking rooms….saved a few trips outside hotel. The hotel Domus Mariea in Rome was a non smoking hotel but has lovely gardened smoking area.
I will definitely be booking with Riviera again and fancy Krakow next year. Kevin Buckley

We have just returned from our first Classical Tour of Italy with Riviera & we enjoyed it immensely. The tour was “made” for us by our tour manager Christopher whose wealth of knowledge & attention to detail of every aspect of our trip made the tour extra special for us. The hotels used for the trip were good, Minerva in Arezzo & Domus Mariea Palazzo Carpegna in Rome. The Minerva, although smaller had larger bedrooms & the food in the restaurant was of good quality served by friendly & accommodating staff. The hotel in Rome was palatial but our bedroom, although very comfortabe, was smaller. It had nice grounds to take an evening stroll if we had any energy left after our day’s touring. We had guided tours of Siena, Florence, Arezzo & an optional tour of the Vatican. The vast knowledge of our tour guides- Nicoletta, Luca & Antonella- brought the places we visited to life. The optional tour of the Vatican was well worth it although it was a bit of a hustle bustle. The huge numbers of people visiting the Vatican meant that we were unable to linger in places as we might have wished. We found that one of the joys of a tour like this is meeting other people from all walks of life & sharing experiences of our day at our evening meal. We had plenty of free time in Rome to explore the city, it is easy to get about on the Metro & we found some excellent places to visit & restaurants to have a meal in off the beaten track. Riviera have done an excellent job in putting this trip together. It is hard to find anything negative to say. One recommendation we would like to make is to offer a guided tour of Assisi. We would really have appreciated this to help us bring such a beautiful place to life especially the Basilica. All in all, this was an excellent trip which we thoroughly enjoyed.

We have just returned from our Classical Italy Tour, our first with Riviera but certainly won’t be our last. There was so much packed into this, make sure you bring comfortable shoes, but it’s the best way to see so much of the country in a short time. Our tour guide Christoper was fantastic, he took such good care of us, gave us great tips and detailed maps and transport information when we were in Rome, nothing was too much trouble for him. The hotel Minerva was lovely and the staff were great, the Domus Mariae in Rome was great too but lacked the personal touch, Sad I suppose typical of a big city. All in all can thoroughly recommend this tour.

Visiting Siena, Arrezo, Florence, Assisi. The tour was extremely well planned, each day being more interesting than the day before. Our guide Giovanna was very knowledgable, caring and attentive. Hotel service was good with nearly all the meals being very enjoyable. We met up with a very nice group of people. Returned last night with sore feet!! Classic Italy was a fabulous trip with a well constructed Itinerary. Be warned, all tours with the exception of Rome are walking tours, so take comfy shoes and plenty of water! The hotel Minerva in Arezzo and The Milton Roma were both functional and ideally situated, staffed by courteous and helpful people. The local guides were all very good especially Raquel in Arezzo where her passion and enthusiasm was infectious! Norman our tour manager was extremely knowledgeable and gave us plenty of tips and advice with lots of insider information to assist us when we we’re let loose on our own! This is our 2nd trip with Riviera Travel and we have recommended them to our friends after our last one to California and the Golden West and will continue to do so. So now we just have to decide which one next, after recovering from this one. Memorable trip.

I chose this tour from a brochure inserted in the “Sunday Mail” as it seemed to present exactly what I wanted in a manageable package-I could not be more pleased and really can not praise highly enough! Our flight was met very efficiently at Rome airport and we were then escorted and checked in to our first hotel in Arrezo by Sarah-she could not have been more friendly and helpful. Our main tour guide was Sergio and again he could not have worked harder to please and entertain! Each day’s tour ran like clockwork-to Sienna, Florence, Arrezo, Assisi and Rome-all with a local escort/guide and plenty of free time. Both hotels were very good with good food and accommodation in great settings. At the end of the holiday we were again escorted and checked in very carefully for our return flight. I really can not praise the whole holiday break highly enough and must again thank Sarah and Sergio-between them they made the time in Italy very special.

Everyone on the holiday gelled really well and no one caused any problems, I recommend this holiday to anyone looking at going to Italy and we will be booking another holiday with Riviera Travel.

The hotel in Arezzo had dinner included which was true Tuscan food, superb. The tour manager Norman was knowledgeable & helpful the local guides were great interesting & full of information about the area. We would have enjoyed an overnight in Assisi as there was so much to see but not enough time. Norman took us to little villages one in particular stood out Santa Maria De Angelou just before Assisi. Rome was great the hotel was lovely fab breakfast the rooms were modern. Clean but a little small compared to Arezzo. Our fellow travellers were friendly & great company felt we had known them for ever.

What made the experience so memorable was our tour guide, Tony Russo. He was pleasant, helpful and very personable. Also very knowledgeable about all the areas and places that we visited. Please pass on our thanks to Tony for making the tour extremely memorable. This is the second trip we have made with Riviera Travel. We have also been on your Classical Spain, in 2008, which was also thoroughly enjoyable, and opened our eyes to the Spain beyond the Costas.

Having already experienced a thoroughly enjoyable “Riviera” holiday to Provence, we decided to sample Italy and booked our places on the “Classical Italy” tour. Again, we were impressed. The specialist Italian guides, who took us around Siena, Arezzo, Florence and the Vatican were knowledgeable and communicated easily and sympathetically. Our tour manager, Cristina, was friendly, professional and “went the extra mile” to ensure all went smoothly and that we were able to take in the history and culture that appeared almost around every corner. The hotels and food were good and we met some lovely and like-minded people in the group. Highly recommended..but be prepared to walk round cities and climb a few hills. It’s worth it!

Absolutely amazing (though exhausting - our choice) tour. Saw and learned so much. Julia so good at parcelling out just enough information/knowledge at the right time so we didn’t get overwhelmed. Really appreciated her sense of humour and relaxed style. Local guides were also great for giving local flavour. Felt the balance between organised and self-guided parts of the tour was just right. Hotels in Arezzo and Rome both good in their own way. Felt very privileged to slip into the back of the Church in the Roman Hotel and join in what I understood of the service being led by a group of Italian pilgrims. I agree with the decision not to make the tour all inclusive because of the changing situation with the Italian tourist board. I don’t begrudge entrance fees (wouldn’t have qualified for free, anyway) but will be saying something to them (the tourist board) about compulsory “inclusive” tickets…and the fact that shops etc have such small floats….the chap in the Vatican would not have sold me my 12 euros of goods had I not produced the 2 euro (and bang went my 50 cents for the loo!). Our new Riviera brochure was on the mat when we got home and it has been well thumbed, believe me.

Just returned home after spending 8 great days in Italy, looked after by our fantastic tour manager Vanessa. I cannot praise this young lady enough. From early morning till late evening Vanessa was available to help out with whatever issues arose. On our free day in Rome there was a bus drivers strike, but Vanessa organised a coach to take us into Rome centre and then collect us in the early evening. Maybe Riviera may consider including this facility in the future. It certainly took away the worry of ensuring that we got on the right bus or Metro from our hotel which was situated 2.5 miles from the City centre. Well done to Vanessa for looking after the entire group for what was 8 glorious days in the sun and culture of Italy. This was our 5th tour using Riviera and we will certainly be booking further trips in the future.

I would like to tell you that our recent holiday with you was tremendous success. It was well organised, we were comfortable and the Guides were of a very high quality which we appreciated. In particular, Jeff, our tour leader, was a wise and able tour manager. He quickly coped with the very real possibility that we might miss our return flight due to a lengthy hold up on the road to the airport because of an accident. We just made it!

Many thanks for a wonderful trip made so by the confidence and generosity of the tour guide Christopher. My friend who was travelling with me was admitted to hospital and Christopher gave us tremendous support . My friend was treated well in hospital who liaised with our hotel to provide transport to her destination in Rome when she left hospital. I was able to enjoy my trip with the other members of the tour and Christopher was most pleasant and an informed tour guide. Please pass on my thanks to him. Moira Steen

Brilliant trip, v. well organised and well paced.
Special thanks to our guide Christopher who was helpful, efficient, polite, knowledgeable and has an excellent sense of humour. He encouraged us all along but without any feeling of pressure. Despite this everything worked like clockwork and on top of all that he had to cope with one of our number who was hospitalised on day one !
Please pass on our thanks to Christopher.

This is just a brief note to say how much we enjoyed our holiday in Italy. Our Tour Manager, Norman, was most efficient with a notable occasion being when the public services in Rome decided to go on strike. Norman promptly organised a coach to transport everyone into the city centre in the morning and out again at the end of the day. Each day he arranged appropriate stops for coffee etc to and from our planned destinations. The coach driver, Antonio, and the professional guides were likewise of a high standard. Both hotels were good, although the hotel Minerva in Arezzo had unfortunately decided that cool Autumn had come and had effectively turned the air conditioning off. As the daytime temperatures were in the around 27 degrees it would had been nice to be able to return to a cool bedroom where we could have been able to regulate the temperature. Overall it was a most enjoyable holiday.

We were on the above trip, 14-21 October, and I am just sending a word through to say how much we enjoyed it.
The whole tour was good value for money considering what had to be provided, so thank you for that. But not just that, we had a wonderful guide - Christopher - who had it all pinned down. His knowledge of Italy and those particular cities was excellent, and the local guides used for each place were really good too. We loved them! One’s guide is so important. Providing us with maps and information was all very carefully done and Christopher was very clear in his instructions and very conscientious in his ‘shepherding’ duties, making sure we were all accounted for. Nothing was too much trouble.
The Hotels were very good, especially the hotel in Arezzo which took a deliberate care to cater for one’s dietary needs (as I happened to have) and the staff always polite and helpful. The Hotel in Rome is also very well situated. We won’t hesitate in recommending you from now on and will be looking (one day when the pennies allow) to doing another with you. Thanks very much - your professionalism throughout has a big impact.

Great choice of hotels and informative, enjoyable city tours. Our tour director Christopher was first class, knowledgeable, friendly and professional whilst taking care of 51 people. Our group of four managed to lose our maps and found ourselves lost in Florence, during a downpour. As Christopher had given each person his mobile number we were able to contact him and he found us and brought the coach round to meet us. We were so relieved as we waddled along in our disposable ponchos. Thank you Christopher for a lovely tour and taking such good care of us. Thank you also to our driver Fabrizio who helped everyone on and off the coach numerous times and expertly guided us safely around the Italian road system.

I have just returned from a Classical Italy tour; my first trip with Riviera Travel. My friend and I found the organization of the holiday excellent, the Minerva hotel in Arezzo and the Beverly Hills hotel in Rome first class, and the group as a whole were friendly and fun. The success of the holiday was ensured by the excellence of our guide, Christopher. He was kind, attentive, knowledgeable, with a good sense of humour and nothing was too much trouble for him. Even the weather played it’s part with plenty of warm sunshine! We will certainly book with Riviera again in the hope that your other holidays prove as good as this. Thank you to all who work for the organisation.

Another great Riviera Travel holiday. Hotel Minerva at Arezzo was very comfortable and the food & wine were good. Hotel Beverly Hills in Rome was also very comfortable, but our room safe wasn’t working and we had to change rooms, where the sink plug was not capable of holding water. Apart from that, the hotel is in a beautiful area very close to some affordable quality restaurants and we could walk to the historic centre without too much effort. The trips to Siena, Florence, Assisi and Arezzo (all beautiful cities) with local guides were well thought out and gave a real flavour of the cities and their history. Rome was amazing beyond words, the only negative aspect was the continual encounters with ticket touts.
Our Tour Manager Christopher is a real star and managed to keep us all together and informed in a humorous way. He had a knack of being at the rear of our party making sure nobody went missing and also at the front with the local guide seconds later. Nothing appeared too much trouble and he dealt with some incidents with our fellow travellers requiring treatment by doctors without any fuss. If Christopher decides to pursue another career he could easily be qualified for cat herding.

Just returned and looking through photographs for the umpteenth time. Thoroughly enjoyed trip with my wife and two friends. Denise the tour manager was excellent and was a fund of information. The knowledge and enthusiasm of the three town and city guides was infectious in the extreme and was transmitted with humour. The hotels were good value for money and my party had no complaints at all. Third trip with Riviera we are already combing the brochures for the next one. Well done.

Have just returned from the Classical Italy tour based in Arezzo and Rome. The first thing to say is that it was up to the usual high Riviera standard. Our tour manager Norman was very helpful, friendly and efficient. The hotel Minerva in Arezzo was excellent with friendly and efficient staff. All tours and in particular the local guides were superb but special mention must be made of Bernardo in Florence who was one of the best I have encountered. The old town of Arezzo is convenient to the hotel and is one of the best places I have visited. The hotel in Rome was good apart from the failed air conditioning. Rome was well worth the visit the only problem being the number of people. However I am well aware that I was adding to the number. It is simply something you have to endure. Having used Riviera a number of times in the past it will continue to be my first choice for future trips. Many thanks to all involved.

This was our third holiday with Riviera and once again we have been really pleased with the organisation, the itinerary, the standard of the hotels and our tour guide. For this holiday we were so well looked after by Christopher who made the holiday great fun with his terrific sense of humour and ability to get across loads of fascinating information about the history, the artists, the food, the regions we visited by drawing us into his stories - we never bored and we loved it! Florence was stunning although very busy but Christopher ensured we avoided the long queues into the Ufizzi Gallery and again when we visited the Vatican we had privileged entry without a long wait. Sienna was really beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed Rome. Please pass on our thanks to Christopher for ensuring we had such a good holiday. And thank you Riviera for putting together another great package.

Just returned from our first guided tour; excellent; can’t wait for the next one! Norman, our tour manager, was knowledgeable, experienced, sensitive, generous, helpful, friendly, patient, good sense of humour…nothing was too much trouble. .. Thank you Norman. Thank you to our fellow travellers for your friendliness and help. (I use a wheelchair). Hello Mark!! The weather was exceptional throughout. Hotel Minerva in Arezzo had special staff, good food and facilities (pity that its not ‘no smoking’). Hotel Beverley Hills in Rome was excellent (pity about no air conditioning though we were blessed with a balcony in our room)! Italy in general is not ‘disabled friendly’ though we found Italians to be very friendly and helpful. Brilliant range of historical sites, exceptional buildings, workmanship and artistry on this tour. We loved Assisi; fine medieval town with a unique sense of peace and serenity. There really is a God/ higher power!! Local guides were exceptional as was Antonio, our coach driver (smooth rides even over at times poor road surfaces); thank you. We highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants a hassle free holiday where history comes alive before your eyes; where you can marvel at the genius of famous Italian painters, sculptors and craftsmen; and the sun shines down on you all day!

A super holiday, well organised with fantastic tour manager and specialist guides. Christopher was brilliant - always there when needed but not “in your face”. Everyone knew their topic and were well versed. Hotels were excellent and convenient and staff were very friendly. I would recommend this tour to everyone - but you do need to have comfy shoes - there is a lot of walking!

This is our third holiday booked with Riviera and again it lived up to the high standard we have come to expect of this company. The itinerary was just right. We loved staying in Arezzo it was such a lovely little town, it was a shame we did not discover it fully until we were about to leave it. The hotel was excellent and the trips to Siena and Florence gave us a taste for the area. The local guides for the walking tours were of very high quality, their local knowledge and excellent English gave us all the information we could possibly need. The three nights in Rome again gave us a taste for the city. We had an excellent guide on the bus tour and on the visit to the Vatican. It was truly amazing how she kept us all together, with our tour guide, Christopher tagging along at the end to make sure we did not leave anyone behind. Christopher was extremely informative on the whole trip and he kept us all in check without seeming to ‘mother’ us!! He was always there if needed and was friendly and very efficient giving us hints and tips about buying tickets etc so we could make the most of our stay. We did not see it all and are planning to return, but we could not have stopped any longer as our feet and legs needed a rest!! Well done Christopher and Riviera.

We came home yesterday from your “Classical Italy” tour and want to say how much we enjoyed the whole experience. Our special thanks go to Paula, the tour manager. She was friendly, knowledgeable, well-organized and handled any problems calmly and efficiently (stolen wallet, hospital admissions - thankfully neither of them ours). We had confidence in her and felt “looked after” without being regimented or fussed over. We will certainly recommend Riviera Travel to friends and family and hope to join another of your trips in future - we just hope it will be as good as this one was.

My husband and I recently returned from one of your Classical Italy tours (28th May-4th June) We would like to say how thankful we were to have Paula as our Tour Manager. She was an excellent guide but really came into her own when I was taken ill and needed a doctor in Arezzo. She arranged for a doctor to come to our hotel and then came to our room to translate when we were having difficulties with the language. The doctor decided that I needed to go to hospital by ambulance and Paula liaised with my husband the whole time I was there to keep herself informed. Due to a lack of language skills I couldn’t communicate with most of the hospital staff, so Paula came with my husband to find out exactly what was happening and and get some action. I’m sure I would still be there if she hadn’t! Thanks to her intervention we were able to continue the tour to Rome. I am happy to say that I am now fully recovered and I would really appreciate it if you could pass that information on to Paula. Even though she kept saying that it was ” just her job”, she went above and beyond her job description in my opinion. If you have an award for “top Tour Manager”, she gets my nomination. We look forward to travelling with Riviera again in the future. Many thanks,

The Classical Italy tour with Riviera proved to be an unforgettable experience for all the right reasons! A fantastic itinerary allowed us to experience all the major attractions of Italy as well as uncovering some hidden gems. Norman, our tour guide was exceptional; he was of course extremely knowledgeable however it was his attitude that really made him stand out - he consistently done everything in his power to ensure we all got what we wanted from the trip. We felt very lucky to have had him as our guide. Many may see Rome as the main attraction however for us, Sienna and Assisi were the highlights of the tour! Arezzo is also fantastic however the ‘old town’ (which is the best part) is unfortunately introduced on the final day which leaves little time to explore it. The accommodation throughout the tour is also brilliant - whilst the rooms of the Minerva may seem a tad outdated, the facilities (gym, Turkish baths etc) are really great and the food was outstanding. All meals were authentic Italian dishes - the Tuscan soup was particularly good! The Grand Beverly Hills was indeed Grand - much fancier rooms and communal areas which is perhaps why it is far more expensive than the Minerva. Both establishments however were really good and the staff at both hotels were extremely friendly. All in all this is a top notch tour that is well worth taking! We look forward to taking our 3rd Riviera holiday in the near future!

We are just back today from our first Riviera tour and want to say how much we enjoyed it. It was our honeymoon and we will certainly remember it! Our tour guide Christopher was excellent and made sure we still managed to do the Vatican tour despite us going the wrong way on the tram and ending up an hour away from where we should have been! We particularly enjoyed the hotel Minerva with its excellent food and staff. We are looking where we can go with Riviera next time!

We are just back from another lovely holiday with Riviera. Its my third trip. I usually go with my husband but as my friend is 60 this year we decided to have a girl only trip with my sister and her friend. And what a lovely time we had .Our Tour Guide Jeffrey was great always there when needed but stayed quietly in the background while we being guided by the other regional guides making sure no one strayed until we felt able to explore on our own. He is the perfect gentleman and very knowledgeable about all of Italy. Our hotels were perfectly placed the staff in the Minerva could not do enough for us it was like being in one big family, lovely staff, spotless rooms perfect. Also our hotel in Rome the President was great for the metro and exploring on foot and also very friendly despite being such a large busy Hotel, to me it’s always been the perfect holiday being looked after so well and we met some lovely people in our group. Thank you again Jackie Burgess (can’t wait for the next trip)

Just recovered from what can only be described as an ‘amazing adventure’‘! At 29 I was the baby of the group and at times had trouble keeping up with the team! Must thank the great tour manager ‘our Jeff’ who was extremely helpful and at times very entertaining http://websitev6.dev/images/smileys/smile.gif there wasnt anything that gentleman didnt know! Here I must thank the driver (Nico) who left us in Rome. Hours of stressful driving and still kept us smiling, a truly friendly guy. Each destination was perfectly guided by ‘a local’ to their own town/city. This gave a personal touch and knowledgable insight to its history. The tour was well organized and balanced. There was no stone left unturned! Both hotels were of a high standard and very welcoming however the Minerva was exceptional. Staff couldn’t do enough…..... Despite the fact I don’t speak a word of Italian http://websitev6.dev/images/smileys/wink.gif We made the absolute most of our three days in Rome ON FOOT (highly recomend the leg work the sights are beautiful It’s the best way to see it… All roads lead back to the Colosseum !!!!) Must add it is a misconception that Rome has to be expensive. It doesn’t have to be. I ate, drank and experienced all the sites for no more than it would cost me in the UK. Finally thank you Rivera, you absolutely nailed it and would highly recommend you on to all ages.

Best holiday I’ve ever had!! I travelled alone and was quite nervous, no need to have been I felt at ease as soon as I arrived, and made some great friends that I will stay in contact with. Norman our tour guide fantastic, organised, friendly, and a great driver Mimo. Minerva hotel in Arezzo was wonderful, friendly staff, set 3 course meal in evenings very tasty, hot, good service, the no choice was not a problem as there was something for everyone. Wine beautiful (and cheap) Tours breath taking, busy but Norman kept us all together! The president hotel Rome also wonderful, breakfast included lots to choose from, we bought our own lunch and dinner, very reasonable prices indeed, we found with Normans help a gem 5 mins from hotel ‘le virtu in tavola’ fresh seafood, steaks - beautiful. There is a lot of walking but you could take your own place and stop if need be. I would recommend this holiday to everybody - I am already planning my next tour!!

Our first time with ‘Riviera’ but I was reassured when I found how many on our trip had been with them before. It was a very busy tour but everything was really well organised by our great tour manager Sevily. Both hotels were very good - the Minerva Hotel was especially friendly & relaxing. The walking tours were accompanied by a local guide and covered all the major sites with lots of local info added. In Rome Sev made sure we knew about trams & buses for our free day and there were several really good restaurants/cafes in the road immediately to the left of the hotel Beverly Hills. Arezzo was the real treat - not too touristy & full of things to see. Take good walking shoes & an umbrella!

My husband, friends and I can thoroughly recommend this trip! Our wonderful tour manager, Bernie Kelly, and our main driver Danielo were friendly, supportive, very knowledgeable and intent on ensuring we got the very best out of what was on offer. Nothing was too much trouble for Bernie - she was able to supplement any information given to us by the excellent specialist guides (Nicoletta in Siena, Bernardo in Florence, Adina in Arezzo and Antonella in Rome) making sure at the same time that there was not too much repetition. The Minerva hotel in Arezzo had very friendly staff, both in the restaurant and at the front desk. Our rooms were large, clean and well presented and the lounge area downstairs was very attractive. The Grand Beverley Hills (Rome) is an older style of hotel, but again our rooms were a good size (bathroom a little small but very clean and serviceable). The breakfast room was much busier than the one in Arezzo - but then we were in Rome! We liked that it was easy to walk into town - Via Veneto can be walked in 15 minutes. Taxis are relatively cheap - we paid 11 euros including tip for 4 of us back to the hotel at rush hour from the Piazza Navona. Our only disappointment was the Uffizi in Florence - it was packed as you might expect. The organisation inside was chaotic, as there was no real system to ensure everyone could fully appreciate the Leonardo da Vinci works - you had to jostle for position at small doorways. However, we hear that there is to be a new Director of Uffizi - maybe she will sort this out! For those wishing to see David at Accademia - there IS time to see him in between the walking tour of Florence and the timed Uffizi visit. We booked timed tickets directly with Ticket Italy a few days prior to our departure: aim for 12.30 or thereabouts. We all had a wonderful, memorable holiday. Thank you Riviera and particularly Bernie.

We have just returned from the Classical Italy tour and can only endorse what other guests have already said. A busy but fantastic itinerary enhanced by a lovely group of fellow travellers, good hotels, knowledgeable local guides, friendly (and safe) coach drivers and most of all our excellent tour manager Sevilay, who went above and beyond the call of duty to look after her guests and ensure that we all had the best experience possible. Her knowledge and experience, patience, kindness and sense of humour were the icing on the Italian cake. This was our fifth Riviera tour, one of the best we have done, and we are already considering the new Norwegian holiday for next year!

We returned home a few days ago after a truly glorious time in “Classical Italy” with a great crowd of friendly people, many of which were regular travellers with Riviera. Our tour manager was Sev, and I am proposing her for Top Tour Manager; she was informative, friendly, with a great sense of humour and extremely capable with making sure we all got the very best out of our holiday, had a very good relationship with the excellent local guides and would share special little finds of her own. Hotel Minerva was our favourite, comfortable with really kind staff and lovely food, and Arrezzo was beautiful and interesting in its own right. The Grand Hotel Beverley Hills was a little tired, but the staff and breakfast were fine. The coaches were superb, as were the drivers. All the tours were even above our expectations (having been with Riviera four times) and we look forward to seeing more of Italy very soon. In the meantime, we are booked on a Riviera river cruise in Portugal next July to celebrate ‘big’ birthdays with friends and know that we shall have yet another wonderful time. This was our fourth holiday with Riviera and our longest; and they get better every time! We could not find fault with any aspect of the tour, apart from the local tour guide in Arezzo who unfortunately did not engage our interest but that is our personal view. She was lovely, but she had a hard act to follow with Luca in Florence! Norman, our tour manager was brilliant and we cannot thank him enough for looking after us. The two hotels were excellent. We preferred the Minerva in Arezzo - the staff were so friendly, amusing and helpful. The Beverly Hills in Rome was more professional and was what you would expect from a city hotel in any country. The pace of the tour was just right. Norman also found some gems for us to visit that were not on the itinerary. One highlight for us was the rest of the group who helped to make this a truly wonderful and memorable holiday. Well done Riviera for an excellent well organised holiday which represents very good value for money.

Thoroughly enjoyed this tour despite the two days of rain in Florence and Arezzo (where we got thoroughly soaked), however, this did not spoil our investigation of the town. All guides on the tour where very good. The tour guide Vanessa was excellent, very informative, full of knowledge and very enthusiastic. She was able to give us a wealth of knowledge with regards to all locations visited and especially Rome, a credit to Riviera Travel. Staff at Minerva were very kind and helpful during my extended stay. The local guides were very good, especially Bernie in Florence. Looking forward to seeing Rome next time!
