If you've just returned from a tour we'd love to hear from you.
We have just returned from the Bruges tour which we thoroughly enjoyed. Our guide, Pete, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. He gave us a brief 30 minute walk on the evening of arrival just to orientate us in the town, and was available throughout the break to assist with any questions. We would recommend this tour to anyone wanting a short and interesting break.

Just got home from Bruges after a wonderful four day stay. All of the arrangements went like clockwork and the tour guide (Sue) was brilliant.
Thoroughly enjoyed all of the excursions, but was particularly taken by the visit to Hill 62, which was so different to the clinical exhibits of the In Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres. This was our third holiday with Riviera Travel and we plan to book again next year. Many thanks to all Riviera Travel staff.

Having never been on an organised tour before I wanted you to know how much we enjoyed the experience. The hotel was lovely and the organisation 5*. Chris the tour guide was helpful, approachable and a credit to your company. The coach driver Ivan went out of his way to ensure that everything ran smoothly.
The only disappointment was that we feel we did not have enough time in Ypes. To see the town and Flanders fields you need at least 6 hours. Thankyou again

Thank you for arranging the above trip. Although I was meeting a group of friends and did not take up the excursion/ activities provided I found Riviera Travel very efficient and pleasant to deal with.
The tour manager was also very good. I will certainly take advantage of your services in the future and recommend your company to friends and family. I was speaking to a couple of friends in my party who had been on trips arranged by you and they were fulsome in their praise.

Having just returned from Bruges. It was for us, a fantastic holiday, in a place we had never visited before, and I am sure we will return. We stayed at the Golden Tree Hotel, a clean and friendly family run hotel. The inclusive tours arranged on our behalf were really good. The visit to Ypres, Hill 62 and Tyne Cot were for us, one of the most informative and interesting tours. Please keep them a feature for any future trips. A special note of thanks to Sue, our courier on this holiday. She was just great. Her insider knowledge and informative commentary made this holiday even better. We will be back with Riviera soon.

My husband and I have just arrived back from our 3 day trip to Bruges. We had a lovely time, Bruges was such a quaint little place, so easy to find your way around. We stayed in the Martins Bruge Hotel which could not have been more central for everything. Lovely little bar and very good choice at breakfast, you could even squeeze your own oranges in the morning for breakfast. Our tour manager Pete was brilliant and extremely knowledgable and helpful. Would highly recommend this trip.

We both would like to compliment your Company in connection with our recent holiday. Viv, our tour guide, was always there with her helpful, friendly, caring and extremely knowledgeable self. She is such an asset to your company. The hotel was so well situated. Very clean, comfy beds and good size room and helpful cheery staff. Breakfast was superb with such an excellent choice and even freshly pressed orange juice. We liked the daily chocolate left in our room each day - such a nice touch!
Only one criticism and that concerned our trip to Ypres. We feel Ypres, Hill 62 and Tyne Cot needed a full day.
With best wishes,

Have just returned last Saturday (25th of June 2016) from a break in Bruges, FANTASTIC—is the main word I use (but there are many more), my wife has been on various holidays with you over the last years, I believe twelve in total and I have accompanied her on two. We would both like to praise your representative Viv for her incredible knowledge and charm , look after her as she made our holiday.
Yet again top marks to all that are involved in organising and arranging, keep up the good work (AS WE KNOW YOU WILL)

Travelled with a group of friends (6) in total. We all at stayed at the Martins Hotel which was a very good location for getting out and about. Our guide Diane was very organised and extremely efficient when our train home was delayed due to a break down. She was very calm and ensured that all the Riveria Group was taken care of. We all really enjoyed our trip. There is one thing I would like to make a suggestion about. On the day you visit Ypres it should be given the full day leaving at 9.30am. Unfortunately we were taken on a river trip first, which could have been incorporated along side the brewery day or the chocolate shop visit.
It resulted in a limited and rushed day.
A little adjustment in the itinerary would make all the difference.

Have just returned from our first organised trip with Riviera. It was a 4 day tour of Bruges. Absolutely brilliant. Our tour manager - Norman - was excellent. Extremely knowledgeable, helpful and patient. The hotel - Martin’s Brugge - was modern, well appointed and very central. The whole experience was far in excess of what we expected, so much so we’ve come home and booked another tour for next year.
Review by Reg and Julie Woda on 21 July 2016
An excellent tour which could be improved upon. Hotel Martin was excellent both in terms of accommodation as well as location. Travel arrangements via Euro Star were perfect. The Courier, Diane, was knowledgeable and helpful, her support at Lille when the return Eurostar train had a problem was immense and very much appreciated. Where I would improve on the tour would be to allocate a whole day to Ypres giving much more time to enjoy the Museum and the City AND IN PARTICULAR delay the return to Bruges until after 8pm so that we could have witnessed the Last Post at the Gate. We could have eaten in Ypres. Most people on the coach shared this view. The boat trip in Bruges was an optional extra which could be moved elsewhere in the itinerary, not least to the final day.

Just returned from our first trip with Riviera Travel on a four day break to Bruges We stayed in Hotel Academie. It was a great holiday from start to finish. We met our guide Mark on board the train, he was excellent from getting off the train at Lille until our return on the 11th. His knowledge of Bruges is unquestionable a very professional man who showed an interest in everyone in the party. He has a good sense of humour very amusing, friendly man.The trip was excellent Bruges is very interesting place to visit. The hotel was good everything we wanted. We had a lovely trip but it really was made good by having Mark as our guide. We are off again in September so we hope the tour guide is as good as Mark. Thank you Riviera Travel

Three of my friends and I have recently returned from a short break to Bruges. What a superb choice, the Hotel Academie exceeded all expectations, all of the included tours were excellent especially the full day to Ypres. Paul, our tour guide was a really super host, he kept us entertained throughout, his knowledge of Bruges was brilliant. We would certainly recommend your tours to anyone considering a short break and would love to do another next year, possibly Krakow if it’s on your 2017 list of short breaks, I have always wanted to visit the concentration camps there.

We have just come back from the trip to Bruges (13th-16th April), with Pete as our tour manager. I just wanted to send a brief note to say a huge thank you to Pete, who was genuinely nice to be with and who made everything easy and pleasant. We had a great time and ran around Bruges like mad people trying to fit everything in, which I doubt we would have done without Pete’s walking tour and subsequent recommendations. I did mention to Pete that I would write to say thank you and I would be grateful if you could let him know that I have. Just mention the conversation I had with the horse people and he’ll remember me!!

Thanks again to everyone at Riviera Travel - well done!

We have just got back with friends from an outstanding trip to Bruges involving a 3 night stay there in the Hotel Academie. The travelling arrangements went well and we were greeted on the Eurostar train by Anette, the Tour Manager, who went out of her way to ensure that we all had a memorable time. We were on the go throughout our stay with organised trips around the city finishing off with a cruise on the canals on our final day. In addition, we shall never forget our visit to Ypres and surrounding area where we were taken to two museums and and other moving sites to remind us of the horrors of the First World War. The hotel was first class, the weather perfect and Anette ensured that this visit exceeded all expectations. We will definitely book with Riviera Travel again soon!!

Sylwia and I joined our tour leader Angus and a group of about 20 on a tour to Bruges. I feel that the service and organisation of the trip was beyond perfect.
The hotel we stayed in “The Golden Tree” was very pleasant and the staff were very kind to us. All travel arrangements went without a hitch (even though there was a severe terror threat at the time) and the city itself was a delightful place to spend a few days.
Our tour manager Angus was delightful, full of knowledge (for any age group) about the area and history of Bruges as well as being very kind and humorous.
We would definitely like to travel with Riviera travel again, re-visit Bruges at some point and be in the company of Angus for another tour.
I would also like to say that the group in which we traveled with were very nice people too and made our city break that bit more enjoyable.
Thank you for the trip!

Bruges is a wonderful city to visit which can be easily assimilated and appreciated. However any travel agent and tour manager can respectively get you there and tell you what is what. What gave added value to the Riviera 3/4 days in Bruges was the quality, expertise and overall ability of our Tour Manager….Diane (Inglis). A quality CLEAR speaking voice (BBC please note…Jamaica Inn etc ! ) , friendly disposition and an attitude of ’ nothing is too much trouble’

Have just returned this evening from 4 days in Bruges, could not fault it at all. Our tour manager was excellent, her advice, knowledge and helpfulness was brilliant. There was enough time to cover all areas of Bruges and the trips were all good quality with no pressure to buy in the chocolate factory or brewery. The guides in both these places and on the canal boat had very good humour and made everyone feel relaxed. The hotel was very clean with nice rooms, good choice for breakfast and very helpful staff. Bruges - what a fabulous short break to enjoy all the scrumptious delights, both visual and in taste, this compact town has to offer. Make sure you pack comfy shoes to cope with the endless cobbles and diet before you go to indulge in the temptations the 50 chocolate shops and 300+ restaurants have to offer. Must do include a ‘hot chocolate’...Cadbury eat your heart out…and a horse and carriage ride to play at being Queen for 30 minutes. Having done Paris with Riviera last year, we decided to give Bruges a try and Riviera maintained their excellent organisational skills. My only comment is that they pack an awful lot into a short time which can be tiring, but you can opt out of the organised trips if desired and go your own way. I’m sold on Eurostar! Stress-free and punctual, it puts airports in the shade so perhaps Riviera could work on compiling other trips utilising other countries rail networks to get further afield without the use of a winged craft. I can recommend Riviera’s Paris and Bruges Short Breaks without hesitation. They allow you a taste of these two locations at an affordable price. Can’t wait to book another location. My boarding school chum, from 50 years ago, & I have just returned from the loveliest four day City Break we could ever have wished for. The beautiful City of Bruges was the star of the show, but the impeccable organisation of Riviera Tours enabled us to enjoy every aspect of our trip and to see the very best of what “The Venice of the North” had to offer…. while we reminisced about our long friendship. The hotel was excellent, all the transfer travel was faultless. The complementary trip to Ypres & Tyne Cot was too brief to explore fully, but it gave us a taste of the impact the 1914-18 war had had on the area & the sacrifice of that generation. The cost of this trip would be hard to match. We would not hesitate to book for another Riviera City Break, or recommend the company to family & friends. Travelled on 11/03/2012

Bruges was cold, wet, snowing but this did not deter us from enjoying the walking tour of Bruges having all the wonderful medieval buildings and their history pointed out, the paintings and artefacts in those buildings was so part of Bruges’ history. The Tour Manager, Angus Hadden, was excellent and his knowledge of Bruges and the area was second to none. The tours were thoughtfully organised giving time for private explorations. It was the first time my sister and I had been to this part of Belgium and with Riviera Travel and we will return (we are already planning another sortie somewhere). I can only recommend Riviera.

Only one slight comment - whilst Noel was a great guide, several of the group found it hard to hear him over the noise of other parties etc. A small microphone would work well. Would certainly recommend Riviera - very professional and level of service excellent and will use them again without a doubt.

First time travelling with Riviera - excellent - will certainly use them again, I couldn’t fault their arrangements and friendliness on speaking to their office. Our Courier - Jean Marie was exceptionally good - very helpful and informative and he kept us amused. Weather was very cold, but sunny. Brugge is a lovely town and very easy to get around with plenty of restaurants to choose from with friendly staff. For chocolate lovers, a must - visit to Artisan Chocolate makers very good, especially the hot chocolate and sample afterwards. Trip to Ypres quite emotional but necessary to see just what people went through during the first world war. Flanders Field Museum - we could have spent all day there so very well and imaginatively set up.

Enjoyed a lovely visit to Bruges staying at the Academie Hotel. From boarding our train in Leeds to arriving at our hotel in Bruges, everything went smoothly. Same on the return journey. We were met on Eurostar by Rosey who informed us what to do when we arrived at Lille for the onward journey to Bruges.
We found the hotel very nice and quiet but not far from the hustle and bustle of Bruges.
On our trip to the war cemetery and Ypres, Rosey was efficient, informative and interesting.
Would certainly travel again with Riviera.

This was our first escorted tour, and our first trip with Riviera. We had some reservations about travelling this way - would we feel herded, would we get on with the other travellers, would we have enough time to ourselves and would the hotel be good-quality - but we needn’t have worried, the whole trip was terrific.
Top marks must go to our guide, Rosey, who introduced herself to us on the Eurostar and explained what would happen, and where we were to go, which made transiting through an unfamiliar place a dream! On the coach, Rosey’s lilting, calm voice gave us information and advice, but at no point was this intrusive or annoying. We hung on every word, it was genuinely informative and interesting! Mindful that not everybody was as tuned in as we were, she went over the important points a couple of times, by way of confirmation, and as a result, I think, we were always where we were supposed to be at the right time, which made the tour run very smoothly. We never felt ordered about or herded, and learned much.
The check-in at the hotel was amazingly quick, all we had to do was to give our names and we were given our keys and told where our rooms were - well done to all concerned! Check-out was similarly quick, just a question of dropping off our keys. No bills to settle as everything apart from breakfast is paid for at the time.
All in all this was a wonderful few days, very well run and with a fabulous guide in Rosey, the consummate professional tour guide. We have no hesitation in recommending this tour, and will look to Riviera in the future for escorted tours.

This was our first experience of Riviera and we would certainly use them again - our tour guide David was very knowledgeable and his walking tour of the city was very good. The tour to Ypres was excellent and a visit to Passchendaele is a must. Our hotel Academie was first class; the staff were friendly and the breakfast was very good. We would recommend Riviera and the hotel to our friends. Well done Dave for the first class service.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our break, based at the very comfortable Academie Hotel. The tours were well organised and the arrangements went smoothly. Our guide, Dave, was very knowledgeable and spoke clearly, giving us informative and witty commentaries.
We would be happy to travel with Riviera again in future.

We spent a wonderful four days in Bruges. Weather clear cold and crisp. Tours excellent, Hotel lovely, quiet and still near everything We were lucky to have Norman as our guide who went above and beyond the call of duty to guide, help, entertain, and inform us. We would love to go back but I have a feeling we would miss Norman. We have recommended Riviera to everyone we know. A genuine and heartfelt thanks to Norman.

We have just returned from our first holiday with Riviera Travel, and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Bruges was absolutely lovely. The choice of hotel (The Academie) was excellent, and Vic, our Tour Manager, was superb. He was informative, helpful and a delightful companion.
We will most certainly travel with Riviera in the future, and would thoroughly recommend to anyone considering one of their tours.

We enjoyed a very pleasant break with friends in Bruges & would highly reccomend Riviera Travel. Angus our guide was excellent despite being unwell & his knowledge was second to none. The trips were very well planned giving plenty of free time also. We enjoyed in particular the walking tour & the trip to the Flanders Battlefields which was very moving .

I travelled with a friend and it was the first escorted tour for both of us. We were most impressed. Our guide, Vic, met us on the Eurostar so we were put at ease right from the start. Everything was well planned and executed, but there was time to do your own thing and it didn’t feel at all pressured. We stayed at the Hotel Academie, which was in a great location for the local sites and restaurants and it suited us well. Beds were comfy, rooms were clean (tho’ not too well lit), breakfast was good. Thank you for a great holiday!

This was our first trip with Riviera and our first visit to Bruges. We stayed at the Martin’s Hotel which was central to all of Bruges’ wonderful places of interest. Hotel, tours and Tour Guide - Noel were all excellent and the mix between organised time and free time was just right. Lorraine & Michael Wilson.

This was our third trip with Riviera, and, like the others, was excellent. Met on Eurostar by our guide,Chris, who was brilliant throughout the trip. We were given our hotel room numbers while on the train, which made booking in painless! Hotel Academie quiet but central, with lots of great eating places within a five minute walk. Room was spacious and comfortable, and breakfast offered a wide variety of food, and as much as you wanted. Everything was well organised and there were no hitches. Chris was friendly, well informed and fun, and we learned a lot about the places we visited and Belgium in general. We packed a lot into a few days, and thoroughly enjoyed it all. Thank you Chris and Riviera Travel. Will tell all our friends about you.
Review by Brenda McConkey on 9 May 2013
This was my First organised coach / rail holiday and I was pleasantly surprised by everything. We were helped that the destination was Bruges which is a very nice manageable city and also the weather was great BUT most of all the Riviera guide PETE made the difference. He was efficient but unobtrusive. He was very knowledgeable but not boring. You didn’t get a litany of facts…just enough to interest you with the ready offer of “ask me questions” or “talk to me later” so that the Group kept on schedule. His contacts in Bruges were second to none and his recommendations either for places to visit, to eat or to drink and shop were very reliable ... and best of all he also advised where to avoid. The only draw back was that the trip was too short but then we can always go again. We used the Academie Hotel which was much better than the brochure or web-site implied with a welcoming staff, great location and rooms and a very substantial breakfast option. Thank you Peter and Riviera. Hope to see you again.
Review by Tony Atkinson on 10 May 2013
This was our first time with Riviera Travel. We were travelling in a party of 4 and from the initial booking made over the telephone, until our return via Eurostar it was a wonderful experience. Dealing with extremely helpful, friendly people who were able to answer any queries we had, made the booking procedure very straightforward. We were very surprised to meet our Travel Guide actually on Eurostar although the instructions given to us by Riviera regarding boarding Eurostar were very clear. Everything was truly door to door.
Our Travel Guide, Sue, was a really lovely person and nothing was too much trouble for her. She even arranged, during our visit to Ypres for a taxi to take us to a War Grave at Canada Farm to visit a grave of a relative of one of our party.
The hotel we stayed in was very comfortable and friendly and very central. All the visits and tours were well organised and Sue was extremely knowledgeable about local places and the history of Bruges itself.
All in all a wonderful break and as a finale, we were able to see most of a fascinating and traditional procession celebrating the Feast of the Holy Blood. before we had to leave to begin our journey home.
We will certainly travel with Riviera Travel again and will recommend you to all our friends. Thank you.

We have just enjoyed our first “guided” holiday. Riviera Travel were excellent from beginning to end. The paperwork was excellent, telephone contact pleasant and helpful and Noel, our guide, was excellent and made the whole visit most interesting. The hotel was good. Every part of the holiday more than met our expectations. Although we had visited Bruges before we really appreciated the help and guidance from Noel. Many thanks. We will recommend Riviera Travel to friends.

This was our first trip with Riviera Travel and it won’t be our last. Everything was well arranged and our guide, Peter, was excellent. Very knowledgeable and with an obvious love of both Belgium and Bruges. His help and advice made for a relaxing break even though we are seasoned travellers under our own steam! We chose to join some of the organised activities and not others so it suited us perfectly. We stayed at Martins Hotel which was excellently situated near the main square and was clean and comfortable with helpful and pleasant staff. Breakfast was very good, served in the airy and light restaurant. We will definitely be going on the Paris trip next and can recommend Bruges with Riviera.

This was our first trip with Riviera Travel and it definitely won’t be the last. Everything was well organised, it was easy to book and all the paperwork arrived when it should. The journey was very pleasant from the time we got on the train in Stafford, to Euston with a short walk to the magnificent St. Pancras Station and on to the Eurostar. At the other end the coach was waiting and that is when we first met Norman, our guide. He had a wealth of knowledge not only about the excursions but everything to make our holiday as enjoyable as possible - he knew so much about Bruges and on the walking tour the weather was absolutely awful but he never faltered and still made it interesting. On the trip to Ypres he never stopped talking almost from the moment we got on the coach - he almost made you think that you understood what those poor young men went through, although you never could it was so moving and at Tyne Cot it was very peaceful and we are really glad that we went. This will be the first of many trips with Riviera we hope and we would love to have Norman as our guide again. We will certainly recommend Riviera to our friends and family.

My husband and I were most impressed with our first experience of Riviera. All documentation arrived on time and previous telephone contact with the office was very efficient. Our guide, Pete, could not have been more informative and his practical advice was very useful. He was also very thoughtful to anyone who had any problem walking and everyone rated him very highly. The Academie Hotel was in a perfect location and near very good restaurants.
Review by Mrs. M. Ludley on 30 May 2013
We very much enjoyed our recent tour with Riviera Travel to Bruges. The travel arrangements to Bruges were very well organised and a lot easier than we expected. The Virgin train to Euston and the Eurostar from St Pancras to Lille were on time, from where our guide, Norman, accompanied the coach group to Bruges. We stayed at Martins Hotel, a delightful small hotel in a perfect central position near to the Belfry, modern décor and a nice cosy bar with very reasonably priced drinks. The belfry chimes were not on at night so we slept well on a comfortable bed, although our room on the third floor was a little small. The self-serve breakfast was very good with a large selection, hot and cold. Norman was very friendly and his enthusiasm and knowledge of the area was excellent. During the four days we did have two days with some heavy rain but we had come prepared after reading the weather forecast and were happy to join in all the excursions which took our mind off it. On the last day the sun shone and as we were not leaving Bruges until mid afternoon we were able to wander around enjoying the sights again and wandered down to the market where the stallholders were selling crafts and antique brasses etc. It was Saturday, the start of the recent Bank Holiday weekend, and we were surprised by the masses of people suddenly filling Bruges that day and were glad we had reserved a mid-week break with comparative quietness. We would unquestionably recommend Riviera Travel for their organisation of the holiday, and also Bruges as a delightful place to visit with its cobbled streets and waterways.

This was our first tour with Riviera. Everything went as promised, from leaving Liverpool Monday a.m. to arrival in Lille by Eurostar (reserved seats on both trains). Peter our guide introduced himself to us and helped us onto the coach to Bruges. He had arranged check in at the hotel, this made life so much easier. He gave us a complete guide to Bruges on our walking tour even to recommending which restaurants to try. The highlight was the trip to the Trenches, to Passiondale and to Ypres. Before arriving at these places Peter gave an insight into the First World War which most of us had not realised, what a great tour guide. Would I go with Riviera again YES most certainly

Tour Manager/guide ‘Pete’ was excellent and really is extremely knowledgeable on all aspects of the tour. Ivan the coach driver gave us smooth and comfortable journeys. This short break was very good indeed and we would travel again using Riviera Travel especially if we knew we would have ‘Pete’ as our guide.

We were met by Diane our Tour Manager on the Eurostar, from that moment we knew we were in the best hands, she was great she gave us really helpful tips and information about the stay (we have not been abroad for 15years). She was so knowledgeable about the areas we visited. To get our bearings she gave us an informal walk about on the evening of our arrival. The walk about on the following day, the demonstrations and the boat trip were all well organised and informative interspersed with humour, which made them all the more enjoyable. Also the Hotel Academie was very comfortable and the breakfast selection out of this world catering for all tastes. First class holiday so well organised. Thank you Diane

My wife and I (Mr. and Mrs Philip G & Ann Cole) recently enjoyed a wonderful three-night break with you from 17th July to Bruges, having found your advertisement in The Lady. It was two firsts for us; with Riviera Travel, and also to Bruges. The whole experience was certainly something to retain in our memories from the many photographs that we took, and we shall highly recommend this holiday to our wide circle of friends. Martin’s Hotel was conveniently within the city centre, and the standard of accommodation and service was, we felt, underestimated in its three-star rating. All the staff, without exception, were friendly and welcoming. Riviera left nothing to chance, and everything was professionally organized to make things go smoothly. We didn’t feel unnecessarily guided towards certain activities, but were grateful to be shepherded towards highlights of this enchanting area, especially the visit to Ypres, where my grandfather served in The First World War. Mary, our guide was excellent. Unfailingly courteous, with unobtrusively confident people-management skills, her running commentaries were always informative and presented in an engaging and sensitive manner of delivery, which made them easy listening, avoiding any attempt to lecture. With very many thanks indeed for such a particularly relaxing holiday.

We have just return from a four day tour of the lovely town of Bruges. I have to say a big thank you to Riviera for a well planned tour which was both interesting and enjoyable. From the train transfers in the UK and the Eurostar to Bruges which seemed to pass very easily to the coach transfer to the hotel. We stayed at the Academie which was comfortable and within an easy stroll of the main part of town and market square. The staff were especially pleasant in the reception, bar and dining room. Our room was always clean, comfortable and equipped with tea making facilities. Essential for the English traveller!! The town was very easy to walk around and enjoy with many restaurant and bars serving excellent food and beer. A big thanks to our tour manager Norman (Norm) who was a font of knowledge who delivered the tour in an easy, confident manner of a guide on top of his game. His concern for his group was a credit to his style and organisational skills. We hope to see him again next year in the Holy Land!! The content of the tour was well balanced and just about right for the time we were there with just about the right amount of trips and done time. All in all a well planned and executed tour which left us looking forward to the next one with Riviera.

Had a lovely trip to Bruges with my 2 friends, very good value, lovely hotel Academie, nice and central. Tour guide Pete was excellent, very informative without being boring, I learned a lot. The tour to the trenches, Tyne Cott cemetery and Ypres was very thought provoking, but not morbid. Tyne Cott was beautifully kept and a credit to the people who look after it. Bruges was lovely, a very enjoyable trip. One point though, shame Eurostar have not more room for luggage, on the return journey, there were cases everywhere, which made it difficult to get on and get settled even with hand luggage.

An excellent tour. Bernadette our tour guide was very knowledgeable, both about the city and history. The trip to Tyne Cot cemetery and the trenches at Hill 62 were particularly memorable. The organised trips were timed well and there was plenty of free time too!

We have just returned from a wonderful trip to Bruges, our first with Riviera and we were very impressed. Our tour guide Annette was superb - charming, helpful, witty and knowledgeable about Bruges and the Ypres area and she made the whole tour most enjoyable. Bruges is a lovely city and after this trip we feel we know all about it and its history far more than if we had gone on our own. Lovely food and beer and the waffles are delicious!!

We have just arrived back from a trip to Bruges. It was a wonderful trip. Our tour guide, Bernadette, was excellent. Her knowledge and ability to communicate it to us in an engaging way were brilliant. On top of this she spoke so clearly, with just the right tone and volume, that it was easy listening. The paperwork received before the trip was very helpful and Bernadette added just the right amount of local information about timings etc. to make everything go smoothly. We were also very happy with the hotel - clean, comfortable and a good breakfast. We shall certainly be travelling with Riviera again.

Dear Riviera Rather belatedly, we’d like to pass on our thanks to your tour guide, Cilla, for her helpful and friendly organisation on our recent trip to Bruges. She was very knowledgeable about Bruges, made the trips out very interesting and informative, and even had to cope with a quick re-organisation of the canal boat trip, due to a tree crashing down into the river just as we were due to set off! We weren’t able to pass on our thanks and appreciation to her in person at St Pancras as she had to dash off quickly herself in order to get home, so would be grateful if you could do so. If you have any kind of in-house reward scheme for your guides, we would certainly recommend Cilla for something appropriate. We have toured with Riviera before and will definitely do so again, Many thanks

We had a fantastic holiday in Bruges. We were very impressed with the travel arrangements which took us from Liverpool to Bruges in an easy and relaxed manner. Special mention to Pete our guide who we met as soon as we got on to the Eurostar and who greatly assisted with the plain sailing of the travel arrangements. Bruges is a beautiful place to visit and the experience was much enhanced by Pete’s expert knowledge and advice. We would highly recommend the Hotel Martins for it’s location across from the main square and also for it’s friendly staff, comfort and excellent breakfast. Every bit of the Tour was enjoyable and there was a chance to see and do plenty whilst still feeling that you were having a relaxing break. Again Pete’s expertise in managing the tour was key to this. We would highly recommend this holiday and would definitely travel with Riviera again.

Review by Mrs C McNaughton on 18 August 2013
We have just returned from a 4 day/3 Night break in Bruges where we stayed at the Martins Hotel. It is difficult to find adequate superlatives to describe our experience, Bruges is an incredible medieval city with an intoxicating atmosphere all of its own and our hotel being situated in the middle of the town meant that we were constantly surrounded by the most beautiful buildings and network of canals. This was our first experience of travelling with Riviera. It is also the first time I have felt the need to write a review. Right from the time of our departure from St Pancras on Eurostar, the service provided by your tour manager can only be described as superb. Kay was not only incredibly well informed on the history of Bruges but succeeded in imparting this information in a most interesting manner. Her superb ability to handle a number of problems which arose, which I hasten to add were no fault of Riviera, puts Kay very much in a league of her own. Altogether a hard act to follow but there is no doubt that we will certainly put our trust in Riviera for future holidays
Review by Mike Goodman on 19 August 2013
This note is to express our thanks for a memorable trip due in no small measure to our tour guide, Kay. Her knowledge of all things Belgian and Bruges in particular gave the visit added enjoyment. Her advice on restaurants we may like to visit in the evenings proved invaluable and her suggestion to try the Flemish dish ‘Waterzool’ was spot on. On the day visiting the Battle Field of Flanders she impressed us all with her depth of knowledge on this subject which gave added interest as we wandered quietly among the memorials to The Great War. Nothing seemed to phase her when things went wrong. One guest to hospital for a check up, a 1 1/2 delay to Eurostar on our return. She really showed that Riviera Travel was there to sort things out. Please thank her for all her efforts on our behalf. Regards

Having just returned from Bruges I must complement our tour guide Noel for the way he structured the tours so as not to be too demanding physically nor with information overload. The travel arrangements were fine as was the hotel location. Would have appreciated another day to visit Damme.

This was our first trip with Riviera but will certainly not be our last. We could not be more impressed with the organisation of the tour from the point of booking right through to our return journey home. The trip was made specially memorable by our excellent tour manager Diane. Her friendly, cheerful, highly informative, easy manner and dedicated attention to detail meant we got the maximum benefit from our visit whilst at no time feeling rushed or obliged to participate. The standard of accommodation was high and as described. We look forward to future travel with Riviera.

We have just returned from the above Tour of Bruges. I would like to complement your company on a trouble free and relaxing short break. All of the connections were easy and un-stressful . The Tour Guide Annette was a diamond, very professional, efficient and a wealth of local information. The coach driver Luke was very good too, being punctual, safe, pleasant driver. There was a good balance between organised tours and free time to do what you fancied. We shall be traveling with Riviera again, also letting all my friends know how enjoyable the tour was. Brilliant, Thanks.

From my first phone call, balance paid, tickets sent and 4 day break to Bruges your company organised, informed and provided a first class service throughout. Our train journey from the North of England, onto Eurostar was so easy and we were soon with our group onto the coach and to our hotel Martin’s Brugge. The hotel was one of the best organised, most friendly and comfortable we have ever stayed in with a gorgeous breakfast each morning. It was such a relief to find our guides Viv and Bernadette were there for us and not just the hard sell of getting people on ‘trips’ that made us give package tours up years ago when my children were small. Perhaps the biggest compliment I can give is to say that I have never even considered going to Paris before but having seen the way your company works we are seriously hoping to go there next year. Many thanks to everyone at Riviera Travel – a true gem which we will be sure to let all our friends know about.

Oh my goodness, what a pleasure to have a guide like Annette. She was wonderful and was able to help me go to visit my grandfathers grave at Bluete Farm, a short distance from Ypres. She could not have been more helpful and my friends and I all agree on that. All of the arrangements made from the booking of the holiday, to the travel from and back to Newcastle was first class. The hotel was in a great location and of course the city of Bruges was wonderful. Our coach party was all friendly and that made a great difference. Many, many thanks for what was a truly wonderful time.

This was to be our first holiday via Riviera Travel, but certainly will not be the last. From start to finish the organisation was exemplary. Pete, our tour guide, introduced himself to us on Eurostar as we journeyed to Lille. From then on he was always on hand to help. We joined all the excursions and found Pete to be an excellent guide who was very knowledgeable. The holiday experience was delightful. We stayed in the Martin’s Brugge Hotel, an excellent choice for location and superb breakfast. We considered the break to be excellent value for money and would not hesitate to recommend it to family and friends.

What a wonderful 4 day break we had in Bruges. My first organised holiday. Totally impressed with the organisation of Riviera. We travelled from the north, then onto Eurostar where our guide introduced himself to us, giving details of directions once we left the train. His knowledge of Bruges was amazing. Nothing was to much trouble for him at any time. A true professional is Angus. I look forward to more holidays with Riviera. Many thanks.
Review by Pat Lewis on 9 September 2013
After an awful train journey from York to Kings Cross my wife and self were apprehensive about the cross -channel trip. Our concerns turned out to be groundless because the rail journey by Eurostar was quiet, comfortable and speedy. OK we had upgraded to Standard Premier Class but it really was worth it. The coach attendants were polite and accommodating and the snacks provided excellent. It was also good to be greeted in our coach by Andrew, who turned out to be a font of knowledge for tours of the city and Ypres. The hotel Academie was clean, cool/warm and comfortable as one could wish and within short walking distance from a load of very good restaurants. Full marks for an interesting and well organised break in a beautiful City.

We have just returned from our second Riviera trip to Bruges this year. We enjoyed it so much in April we booked again for September. Once again it was a brilliantly organised trip. Our guide, Chris, was very helpful and provided us with great information and guidance. We stayed in Hotel Academie again and the staff there make it a very welcoming and comfortable place to stay, and wonderful breakfasts! The hotel is in a great location, within walking distance of all the main attractions. The brewery tour and the visit to the chocolate shop are a must, both very informative and interesting. Thanks to Chris and Riviera for two wonderful trips, thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely do it again.

Review by Kenneth Gore on 26 September 2013
This was one of the best breaks I’ve ever taken. We had a problem with a delayed East Coast train but the “on-call” rep and tour manager dealt with this giving a clear contingency (not needed because Eurostar staff sorted us out and we made the connection). The hotel Aragon was excellent, rooms really good and breakfast excellent. The tour manager, Pete was very professional, well informed and not in your face. He took a good trip and made it an excellent one. Brugge was wonderful and full of lots to do. The Ypres tour was moving and not to be missed. Well done Riviera!

My friend and I had a wonderful trip to Bruges staying at the Hotel Academie. Our guide, Jean Marie, was excellent. He made himself known to us on Eurostar and from then on looked after us all very well. He went the extra mile, even taking us on a walk around Bruges to point out where to eat and where not to eat, when we arrived. His knowledge was amazing and I don’t believe we missed out on anything. The visit to the chocolate demonstration, the canal boat trip and our visit to Ypres were well worth while. Will definitely travel with Riviera again.

We have just returned from a wonderful four day break to Bruges. My husband is in his mid-eighties, so I picked the tour with care, hoping it would not be too tiring for him. In the event it was perfect. The journey by Eurostar was effortless, along with the transfer to the hotel, and the itinerary was lovely, combining Bruges itself with the interesting trip to Ypres and its surrounding areas. What made it so special for us was our tour guide, Chris, who not only had a wealth of knowledge but kept a discreet eye on us and always made sure my husband had enough time to get anywhere, without him having to hurry or the rest of our group having to wait for us. As we made our way back to Lille, my husband said he wished he could do it all over again. Please convey our grateful thanks to Chris and we would certainly recommend this tour. We may even do it again ourselves!

First time on an escorted city tour. Thought the organisation and planning was excellent. Plenty of information and the escorted activity (which I recommend, but is always optional anyway) also left plenty of time to do your own thing(s) too. Tour rep Dave was excellent, always on hand with all sorts of varied and valuable knowledge. In short, the Bruges tour I thoroughly recommend, and will explore other Riviera destinations.

Although weather was not good, we had a fantastic time, looking at all the architecture, fantastic scenery, we visited Ypres, what a spectacular place. We visited Hill 62, the Canadian cemetery, Flanders etc, if you are interested in the 1st world war, then this is a must see place. We traveled by Eurostar, very fast, our coach driver and our guide (Annette) were fantastic, Annette was able to answer any of our queries and was full of lots of useful information. Riviera travel did a marvellous job of making sure we had a informative time, with time to just mozy around at our own leisure. The highlights were being able to pay respects to the men who gave there lives for us, a very moving time but well worth a visit, the sights of the trenches, craters caused by bombs as well actual photographs were exceptional.

My son and I recently visited this beautiful city. The itinerary was very well constructed with an opportunity to take part (or not) in a full range of “must do” activity . Visits to the key WW1 spots in the itinerary were very moving and it is well worth visiting the museum at Ypres as well as the monuments. There were plenty of opportunities to explore the city alone and there was a particular feeling of safety which was very refreshing. The accommodation and breakfast was excellent for 3* rating and staff were helpful and friendly. Michele Eden, who was our Riviera tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and an excellent problem solver. She ensured that everyone had a good time and we both have nothing but good to say about her! It was our first time on Eurostar but it was very easy to understand the “airport style” checking in procedures and signs in Lille were also in English. Michele made sure we all negotiated all these key stages successfully once she had located us on the way there. One note to those who might struggle with sore feet is to bring flat, comfortable shoes as the cobbled streets of Bruges can be relentless!

With four other friends this was a random choice. What a surprise and delight. The company is so friendly the organisation and booking brilliant but the star was Sue. What a friendly knowledgeable and approachable person, nothing was any trouble. Better than any sheep dog she kept us all together and interested on a hour and half walk round Bruges. Thank you Riviera will certainly look at you again in the future. Yours Sid & Sandra

This was our first visit to Bruges! My husband and I had always said we would like to go and what a wonderful experince. The journey on Eurostar was faultless, so quick and easy. We were met by our tour guide, Chris, who took us to our hotel The Golden Tree! She was a wonderful ambassador for Bruges, pointing out all the things we had not noticed and telling us things we did not know! The damp weather did not spoil our holiday as the combination of good hotel and good courier made us very happy. We will go again when the weather is a bit warmer! Thank you.

This was our first trip with Riviera Travel and it certainly won’t be our last. From the minute we met Annette on Eurostar she was a complete ‘star’. Very knowledgeable and helpful. The Academie Hotel was ideally situated and there was the option to join or not the various trips. We did and they were excellent. We could just have done with 1 more day. The trip was great value too. Well done Riviera Travel

What a brilliant tour with an equally brilliant Tour Guide in Annette. She was professional but we felt as though we had made a new friend. Her knowledge was fantastic and it was very interesting . The organisation and the excursions were exceptional. It was our first trip with Riviera and it will not be our last. Plenty of free time to do our own thing. Thank you

This was our first tour with Riviera but we was so impressed that we are looking to go to Paris next year. The whole trip was excellently organised and our tour guide, Chris, was excellent. We had a very comfortable stay at The Golden Tree Hotel, the room wasn’t plush but clean, roomy and more than adequate for a few nights stay. Bruges is a beautiful place and the weather didn’t dampen our spirits or enjoyment. Riviera have the pitch of organised tours just right, you don’t spend all your time on guided tours as there’s plenty of free time to ‘do your own thing’ but you also get to see the highlights of the surrounding area with a guide who has an excellent knowledge base. Enjoyable, totally worth the money.

We had an excellent trip to Bruges recently. We were only there for four days but we covered a great deal of ground thanks to Chris our courier. She was very organised and from the word go she gave us all relevant information. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she made sure that our holiday was enjoyable. It is the first time we have used your company and we were very impressed. You are also very lucky to have such an excellent courier.

Thank you for a very enjoyable and interesting break in Bruges, the organisation was excellent as was our guide Viv, she went the extra mile to make everyone welcome and was very knowledgeable about Bruges and all the places we visit. The hotel (Martins) was ideally situated and very comfortable, we were so impressed with everything we are asking our friends to join us again next year thank you once again

What a wonderful place to visit, which was enhanced by our tour manager Annette who was superb. Great sense of humour and she introduced us to some wonderful characters; at the chocolate makers, the brewery and on the canal trip. The whole trip was relaxed with everyone playing their part. Her recommendation for dinner, when asked directly, was spot on and we enjoyed lovely food. The visit to the World War l sites was beautifully set up by Annette, with her knowledgeable commentary. Throughout our trip she entertained us with her entertaining and humorous commentaries, exceptionally good trip.

Visited Bruges with friends. This was our first trip with Riviera Travel and we all deemed it a success and had a very good time. The organisation of the tour was first class and the information given to us by our tour guide Chris was excellent, as was her knowledge of the places we visited. She is an excellent ambassador for the company. We would recommend this tour and look forward to trying other destinations in the future.

We have just returned from an excellent short break in Brugge. We would like to say how much we enjoyed the trip, the weather was wonderful, which always enhances any visit. The hotel Martin in the centre of Brugge was excellent, the staff very helpful and always eager to please. We have travelled with Riviera before and would fully recommend the company. Kay our guide was wonderful, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic and her commentary was always given with empathy and humour. We had a fantastic time, good company and will certainly be booking again with Riviera.

We have just returned from a short Bruges visit. Our hotel The Golden Tree was a short walk from the centre and ideally situated for the excellent restaurant La Belle Epoque. Our tour guide Mary was friendly, well informed and performed above and beyond our expectations. This was our first visit to Bruges and indeed our first experience of Riviera Travel. The fact that we are already looking at Riviera with a view to visiting Prague and Vienna, speaks for itself. Well done Mary and Riviera, hope to see you in the not too distant future. We have just returned from a short break in Bruges and would like to say how much we enjoyed it. Our hotel, Martin’s Hotel, was very centrally situated and the room was clean and comfortable. The excellent buffet breakfast set us up for each busy day! The journey on Eurostar and coach was smooth and easy. Our friendly tour manager, Pete, was very helpful and had a thorough knowledge of the area. He made sure we all had a great time! We would recommend this trip.

This was a fantastic short break to Bruges made all the more enjoyable by Chris our tour guide. She certainly knew her stuff and was most helpful with every aspect of the tour. The only thing I would suggest is that the Sanctuary Wood tour was rather expensive even at the reduced rate of 5 Euros (10 if you weren’t with Riviera). It will be better when the new train station is connected to Eurostar which will cut down journey time but overall this was great and we would certainly go again.

Review by Christopher Goggin on 29 March 2014
Another excellent short break. Stayed at Martin’s Hotel which is the ideal location. Room comfortable and clean. A great breakfast with something for everybody’s needs and tastes. The only downside for us was the lack of a ‘hospitality’ tray. This is not included in the description of facilities, so there is no misrepresentation, but this is something we have come to expect as ‘normal’. We should not be having to carry travel kettles with us for our early morning ‘cuppa’. We ate the local specialities and drank quite a few strong local beers. Our guide Dave was a mine of knowledge and information, very friendly and approachable. The whole organisation of the tour including train travel to and from London was perfect. We are looking forward to our next tour with Riviera later this year. Joan and Edward Clark.

Just back from a fabulous break in Bruges. Stayed at Martin Bruges Hotel, perfect position for sightseeing, right in the centre of the City. Staff really welcoming, Hotel very comfortable and Breakfast endless. The icing on the very lovely cake was Bernadette, our tour Manager. She really brought the place to life with her tales and very knowledgeable history of the area, it was first class. Only one complaint, not enough time to explore everything, will certainly be making another visit. Many thanks to all concerned.

Thank you for an excellent visit to Bruges - our first of any kind with Riviera. All arrangements went smoothly. 3* hotel (Martin’s) was fine. We were free to dip in and out of the trips as we wished which suited us. B&B terms meant that we could eat as we pleased throughout the day and enjoy the terrific choice of restaurants in Bruges in the evenings. Bernadette our tour guide was superb.

Thanks for all your help.

Our first trip with Riviera Travel to beautiful Bruges cannot be faulted. The organisation, our hotel (Martin’s Bruges) and especially our Tour Manager, Kay, were first class. Kay went out of her way to help us get our bearings on the first evening, taking us on a short walk to suggest restaurants to eat that evening. Her guided tour the following morning was excellent and her knowledge of the city is superb. Thank you Kay and thank you Riviera - we will certainly be travelling with you again.

We would like to express out thanks to Rivera Travel and in particular Jean-Marie our guide for a wonderful short break in Bruges. The transport and hotel arrangements went without a hitch and the trips were very good. Jean-Marie went out of his way to make everyone feel welcome and help them during the visit. On the first night he offered to take people on a short tour of Bruges just to help people with their bearings.
He was very knowledgeable on giving us a brief in sight into the 1st WW whilst on route to Ypres and pitched his brief a the right level. Overall we enjoyed the stay and i have recommended your company to other s at work.
Please pass on our thanks to Jean-Marie.

Thanks to Riviera Travel and Tour Manager Kay for making our first trip to Bruges so memorable! The guided tours were superb and her in-depth knowledge of Bruges and Ypres better than we could ever have imagined, providing valuable commentary on many historical events and local customs. We will definitely use the company again for a short trip….......maybe we will be lucky enough to meet Kay once more!

Another excellent holiday with Annette as our Tour Manager. One factor that the brochure does not mention is that the coach can stop right outside the GoldenTree Hotel, so there is no need to pull suitcases any distance over cobbled streets.
Review by Laurence Cox on 12 April 2014
We enjoyed our visit to Bruges. Good accommodation. A negative for anyone with a walking problem was the distance one had to walk to and from the bus which took us to Ypres. Ypres was a long day, longer than originally suggested, getting back at around 7pm, but caused in part by another riviera tour that was in front of us. The visit to sanctuary wood museum was an experience I would have preferred to miss but the only other choice is to stand outside. The museum is tatty and I suspect the trenches and craters are not authentic. Others have reached this same conclusion. All in all this place is a tourist trap.

A superb break with high thanks to ANGUS our tour guide - he was phenomenal with his knowledge and also his willingness to help in any way - even so far as helping us with our luggage off the Eurostar at St Pancras ! Treasure this Guy ! Bruges itself was a real delight also the Hotel (except E2 for a sachet of coffee for the room - never before have we had that on any holiday). We have no hesitation in recommending this well-organised shortbreak. We have used Riviera before and shall be doing so again.

I travelled to Bruges with my grandson on 7 April. The trip included travel by Eurostar and visits to World War 1 sites including Ypres. We had the most wonderful time. The organisation from the moment of booking was excellent. We were met at Lille and from there on our tour guide Annette looked after us. Annette was superb. She was knowledgeable, friendly, thoughtful and funny. She has excellent interpersonal skills and I am sure we all felt as though we were with a friend. The Golden Tree Hotel, whilst quite basic, was clean, well located and family owned. The owners were friendly and very helpful. Unfortunately, I needed to visit the hospital whilst I was there and the hotel owners and Annette could not have been more helpful. It was all beyond expectations. I haven’t used Riviera before but would certainly recommend them and will use them again. Thank you Riviera - only praise for you and your people.

Our trip to Bruges was our first with Riviera Travel and we have been very impressed with the organisation. We have travelled to many countries with many different companies but our tour guide Pete was the best ever!! His knowledge of Bruges is second to none. Nothing was too much trouble, no question too unimportant and his relaxed manner ensured that a relaxing time was had by all our group. I had asked if we would visit Bedford House Cemetery as one of my husband’s family members was buried there. Although not on the itinerary, it was not much off our route from Ypres to Hill 62 so Pete arranged for us to have a brief stop so we could see the grave. We would not have even found the grave without his help. We would not hesitate to travel with Riviera again - especially if we could have Pete as our guide!

My friends and I have just returned from one of the Bruges tours, and we would like to compliment the company on arranging a fabulous tour. Right from the initial enquiry your staff have been extremely helpful, and welcoming. The itinerary of the tour was well paced, and offered all a taste, literally, of Bruges. Perhaps the icing on the cake was our guide, Sue, who was so knowledgeable. She organised us in such a way, that we beat the crowds and made the most of many of Bruges attractions. Many thanks to Riviera for giving us, 11 quilters, such a great time, and we all will definitely be booking again.

We very much enjoyed our short break in Bruges with Riviera Travel. The administration and communications were efficient and professional and our Eurostar tickets arrived in good time. Our tour guide (Mary) introduced herself to all of us on the train and did a great job in ensuring our travel to and from the hotel (via Lille and a coach) went smoothly and that we enjoyed our holiday. We liked Bruges - it was very clean, we always felt safe and there was plenty to do. The visit to Ypres (with a very clear and interesting summary from Mary about the events leading up to World War 1) was excellent. The Academie hotel was comfortable and well-run - no problems at all. This was our first experience of a holiday with Riviera Travel and we would certainly recommend them to others.

I wanted to put a comment about our short city break to Bruges as it lived up to all our expectations as a destination and was made extra special by our guide Mary. I liked that we could pick and choose which guided tours to do during our stay, we didn’t have to do all if we didn’t want to. The cost for these was very reasonable. Mary showed concern for her travel party. She was very keen to make sure everyone was comfortable with all information provided whilst having a choice on things to do and most importantly that everyone was safe. Mary has great professionalism in her job as tour guide whilst carrying out her duties with the best sense of humour! I have always wanted to visit Bruges for its history, art and of course chocolate. What a very pretty city indeed! I loved it. I hope to go back someday as am sure I have not discovered it all yet. My friend and I had a wonderful 3-4 days in Bruges. The tour guide Sue was excellent and knew everything there was to know about the city and we learnt a lot of interesting facts. The only drawback was the weather, but it didn’t matter too much. There are so many places to eat and drink and just sit and watch the world go by when it rains! Bruges is a most fascinating place and I would like to return. Riviera is a great company and we met many interesting people. Our next trip with Riviera will probably be Paris. Thank you for taking such good care of us travellers.

My husband and I have just returned from a wonderful 4 day break in Bruges travelling by Eurostar. Everything was planned to perfection by Riviera and from the initial booking, it was a pleasure to deal with helpful and polite staff. Our guide in Bruges was a Dutch lady by the name of Hannie who is lovely; always a smile and a twinkle in her eye. Her knowledge of Bruges and the surrounding area is vast and we had a wonderful walk round the town, with her pointing out many varied buildings of interest. We stayed at the Golden Tree hotel which is within walking distance of the town centre and although not a ‘swanky’ place, it was comfortable and the staff were there to help, but also unobtrusive. All in all, a lovely break, and I would certainly not hesitate to recommend Riviera Travel to anyone. In fact, I can’t wait for the 2015 brochure.

We have just returned home after a fabulous trip to Bruges. We stayed at the Novotel Brugge and were very impressed, rooms were lovely and the breakfast was really good with a great and varied selection of hot and cold buffet choices. Having never been to Bruges before we were surprised at how big a place it is but most of all how quaint and pretty it is. Our tour guide ‘Dave’ was absolutely superb, he couldn’t have done any more for us, we arrived early on the first day and he offered to show us around town to get our bearings (this was in his own private time). His knowledge is outstanding which made our trips interesting and enjoyable, he recommended some great places to eat and even phoned and booked tables for groups of us. We took advantage of all the trips on offer (the ones that we had to pay for were not expensive), the visit to Tyne Cot cemetary was very moving and we were able to find the name of our great grandad on the memorial wall there. Ypres was lovely and it was amazing to stand at the Menin Gate, again very moving. Massive thanks to Dave for making our trip so memorable, we will without doubt travel with Riviera again!

We have just returned from a superb few days tour of Bruges. Our hotel had been changed to the Novotel which proved to be an excellent choice. Everything about it was spot on. However the highlight of the tour was undoubtedly “DAVE” the tour manager. If a friendlier, more obliging and helpful man exists then I have yet to meet him. His knowledge of Bruges and its history is mind blowing and can only be described as encyclopedic. Everything from the boat trip, the brewery and chocolate factory tours, to the visit Ypres ran smoothly. Not forgetting of course what a wonderful medieval town that Bruges is.

This break was booked as a 70th birthday present for my wife Margaret. To be honest, I wasn’t that keen to go but it was on her ‘bucket list’ so I thought I’d better go as well. However, I am so glad that I did. The whole trip right from meeting our tour guide Chris at Lille through to leaving her four days later was excellent. The Hotel Academie was superb as were Chris’s recommendations for restaurants. All the tours were extremely well organised & Chris’s commentaries were informative & interesting. She certainly knows her stuff! I’d like to especially thank her for helping us to find a family member’s name at Tyne Cot cemetery. We would have been looking for ages without her assistance. In conclusion, I would like to congratulate all your staff for the excellent and memorable break and we would not hesitate to recommend and use your company again. Thank you.

Just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed the trip to Bruges and Ypres. The hotel was switched to Novotel and we all thought it was very spacious, comfortable and well located and the swimming pool was an added bonus. The staff were very helpful and pleasant and the breakfasts excellent.
Our guide, Dave, couldn’t have been more pleasant and helpful booking restaurants for us and arranging a taxi from Ypres when we wanted to stay on longer among other things. Another happy holiday with Riviera. Looking forward to river cruise in July.

Our tour guide Hanni was first class. She gave us a very informative walking tour of Bruges and showed us some good restaurants. We went to Bruges with the name of a relative who was buried at the Menin Gate Extension Cemetery. On our day tour to Leper(Ypres) Hanni walked with us out of Ypres and she found our relative’s grave for us - an example of ‘going the extra mile’. Our hotel The Golden Tree Hotel was excellent, a lovely building with a good breakfast and friendly staff. This was our first holiday with Riviera Travel and we hope to go on another one soon.

We have just returned from a wonderful 4 day holiday in Bruges and had a marvellous time. Was so easy to move from Kings Cross Station across to St.Pancras and a smooth and quick journey to Lille for our transfer to Bruges.
Our hotel, the ‘Golden Tree’, was only a short walk from the town centre. Our room was very comfortable. We had a good choice for the breakfast menu. The hotel owners were happy to answer any queries and drinks were available during the day.
Our guide, Francine, took us on a quick tour when we arrived to show us places to eat. Next day she took us on a full walking tour of Bruges telling us the history and pointing out many of the historical sites.
We were blessed with good weather (most of the time) but with an abundance of cafes etc to dodge any showers.
This was our first visit to Bruges and we’d like to go back, possibly for the Christmas markets and we would recommend Bruges and Riviera Travel to everyone.

We cannot fault the accommodation at Martin’s Hotel. Having travelled with our teenage daughters we did not know whether they would enjoy a more organised trip. They loved it, again praising the knowledgeable Pete. They listened intently to the historical information given on the excursions. Thank you Riviera Travel a well organised, no pressure tour.

My wife and I have just returned from a four day trip to Bruges, it was our first trip with Riviera Travel, we will most definitely go with them again. From her initial briefing on the Eurostar to our final dispersal on returning to St Pancras, our guide, Anette, was helpful, knowledgeable and approachable. The travel arrangements, accommodation and outings were first class. For us it was a ‘taster’ trip, it tasted good! Full marks to all.

I have not been to Bruges for 20 years but offered to take my next door neighbour who has not been out of UK before. We had a great trip and Sue the Guide was lovely. Thank you.

We have just returned from a wonderful 3 night stay in Bruges. The accommodation was excellent at the Hotel Accaddemia, right down from the staff, cleanliness; breakfast and the ‘oh so comfortable’ beds. Neither my husband or myself had been to Bruges before and just fell in love with it. Our tour guide was very, very good at her job and obviously loved it. Her knowledge and manner made the holiday. It is our second time away with Riviera, last time we had a beautiful week at Lake Maggiore in Italy, both times we have experienced excellent attention to detail and planning. Hopefully this wont be our last. Thank you.

I have never taken a guided holiday before and am now wondering why I left it so long! I traveled with my 18 year old grand-daughter who enjoyed it as much as I did. From our first trip on the Euro star, the guided walk of the town, the Brewery tour, the visit to the chocolate shop and the very moving trip to Tyne cot Cemetery, Hill 62 and the Flanders Field Museum in Ypres, it was a holiday that memories are made of. We stayed at the Academie Hotel which is a lovely hotel with a great little bar and outside courtyard and all you could want for breakfast to set you up for the day. Our holiday would not have been the same without our wonderful Tour Manager Annette who knew all the best places to go when venturing out alone and who’s knowledge of the area and it’s history was very interesting. Well done Riviera Travel, I will certainly be browsing through your brochure to plan my next trip.

Our first trip with Riviera. Most impressed. Very efficiently organised, transfers to and from Lille worked extremely well (all credit to Bruno on return to Lille as he took a detour to avoid traffic congestion). Liked the Hotel Academie, very comfortable and well-situated. Sue was a brilliant guide, from the time at which she made contact with us on the outward Eurostar all the way through the tour. Most informative, it was always very clear what was happening, especially on the Eurostar journeys, and that was a new venture for us.
Many thanks, would travel with you again, and recommend to friends and family!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our tour guide, Hanee, for all the help and support she gave when my travelling friend Mrs Wells was taken ill on our journey home and making our visit to Bruges so enjoyable. She must be a valid member of your Riviera Team.

Thank you for an excellent Bruges Tour. My Wife and I were very pleased with the whole holiday. You were recommended. We shall be recommending you, our next tour will be Paris. Our Tour Manager was very good and organised her group in such a way we all got more out of our holiday. May I recommend a restaurant and a bar. The restaurant Vivaldi off Zand near top of Zuidzandstraat and bar de garre down a passage off Breidelstraat. We had high expectation of this holiday because of the recommendation and you exceeded these expectations. I must mention my fellow holidaymakers a very nice group of people. Thank you.

I have just returned from your 4 day trip to Brugge and just wanted to say what a well organised trip it was. Lots of trips if you wanted but also ample free time. Hotel Martins Brugge was very comfortable and staff good - so no complaints, all good value. Must also add that our courier Viv was excellent, knowledgeable and very friendly and efficient, nothing seemed too much trouble. So all round a good trip.

Have just returned and have to say what a brilliant time we had. The hotel Acadamie was very good, rooms clean and comfortable, staff friendly and helpful, breakfast very good. The courier Jean Marie was excellent and well informed and fun. A lovely place with lots to see and do, the Flanders Tour was certainly an eye opener, would recommend this tour to anyone.

This was our first trip with Riviera and we were most impressed, the tour guide was very good and knew everything about Bruges, he made it come to life and was very good at his job . The guided tours were excellent, and it was very good value for money. Also the hotel was excellent. My husband and I are off to Krakow at the weekend with Riviera and can’t wait. I hope to work my way through the brochure as there are many interesting places I have still not visited so I will review more as I go. thanks Riviera !

We have just arrived back from 4 wonderful days in Bruges. The tour was very good and well thought out. We were shown around and we also had plenty of time to ourselves to look around. The river cruise was very enjoyable and so too was the coach trip to the Flanders Fields museum in Ypres and then onto Passiondale, which was very moving. We stayed at The Martins Hotel which again we have no complaints, very comfortable and a very good and extensive breakfast. We were a bit disappointed that there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room though. All in all we would thoroughly recommend Riviera to anyone. Our complements to Mary our guide who did a very good job.

This was the first time that we had travelled with Riviera Travel and can only say that it was well organised from start to finish. We paid for them to organise the tickets from our home town to the Eurostar(East Coast Line, we couldn’t have got a return ticket as cheap as they charged us) and were well impressed with the timed organisation of everything. On board the Eurostar we were met by their rep who talked us through the next stages. We stopped at the Martins Hotel which was just off the centre of the town, which made everything easy to visit. The first day started with a walking tour of the town (optional) but it made it easy for finding your way around, the brewery trip was very good (but not easy for people who are not good on their legs, many steep steps to climb). The trip to see the trenches at Hill 62, Ypres and Passchendaele open your eyes to the horrors of war, making you come away very moved and full of respect for all those young people who lost their lives. The Martins Hotel was very friendly and a good standard, with a serve yourself breakfast, which was always well stocked. If you have never been to Bruges then its well worth a visit (for the ladies Chocolate, for the men beer, and for both, plenty of restaurants. Visit a pub called Cambrinus on Philipstockstraat as it serves approx 400 different beers with some novel glasses to drink out of. Best hot chocolate ever is served at The Old Chocolate House on Mariastraat, well worth a visit. Would we use Riviera Travel again….......that’s a certainty.

Just a few lines to let you know how much we enjoyed our trip to Bruges. It was very well organised and our Tour Manager - Janine - was excellent. She spoke very clearly so that everyone could hear and was informative. Her English was excellent and charming - it is much nicer to be “sticked” in traffic rather than stuck!! Made me smile every time. Please note that this is not a criticism it was lovely.

The holiday far exceeded our expectations - it was very well organised, we never felt pressured, each day was different, and we found the whole experience very easy. Most of all this was because of our tour guide Dave, who was friendly, very knowledgeable without being “pushy”, and a mine of information and good advice. We will definitely be using Riviera again, and will recommend the company to our friends.

My sister and I recently returned from 4 days in Bruges with Riviera Travel. From the moment we boarded the Eurostar everything went smoothly mainly because we had a wonderful courier Jean Marie who introduced himself while we were on the train and gave us maps and itineries. With ease he shepherded us to the coach at Lille - and then to our Acadamie hotel. The hotel was excellently placed for access to all the museums, shops, canal boat trips and the centre of the city, the room was large and comfortable and the breakfast good. Jean Marie was a mine of information on all the places of interest and also on the history of World War 1 which was a great help when visiting the Ypres war museum. Fully recommend this holiday

We have just arrived back from 4 wonderful days in Bruges. This was the first time that we had travelled with Riviera Travel and our first holiday with a Tour Manager. We can only say that the holiday was very well organised from start to finish and our Tour Manager, Diane was excellent and very professional. The hotel Academie was very good, rooms were clean and comfortable, staff friendly and helpful, breakfast was good. Optional visits included a walking tour of the town; a very good visit to a brewery where the tour guide was both informative and very funny; visit to a traditional chocolate maker and a boat trip around Bruges. We also went on a coach trip to Tyne Cot cemetery, Ypres where we visited the Flanders Fields museum and then onto Hill 62 - it was an eye opener to the horrors of war and a very moving experience. All visits were worthwhile going on and we had plenty of free time to walk around Bruges. We would have no hesitation in recommending Riviera Travel (RT) to anyone. Many of the people on the trip had been elsewhere in Europe and The World with RT and all were full of praise for the companies organisation and professionalism.

We have just returned from a most enjoyable few days in Bruges with this being our fourth short break with Riviera and in common with the previous visits was up to you usual high standard our tour manager Keith was also excellent. The trip to Tyne Cot and Ypres we felt would benefit from being longer the visitor center at Tyne Cot cemetery and the In Flanders Field museum in Ypres are both enthralling and more time would be appreciated. Perhaps the itinerary could be adjusted to a allow a full day for this part of the break .

My wife and I joined a tour to Bruges and WW1 cemeteries and battlefields in April. Although short, it was perhaps the one we have enjoyed the most among several with your company. This was in no small measure owing to the excellence of your tour guide ( Angus ). He was courteous, patient, amusing and extremely well informed about contemporary and historical events with a rare capacity to make it all interesting. I wish he’d been my history master! I imagine you get many such testimonials about Angus but, although a bit late, we’d just like to add our own.

We’ve just returned from a perfect four day trip to Bruges and Ypres. We loved every minute. It was a privilege to be at Tyne Cott and the Menin Gate this anniversary year. Our hotel in Bruges, the Golden Tree was excellent. Even the weather smiled on us. Riviera’s tour guide Chris was superb. She always had a smile, and was helpful, bright and chatty throughout. She retained her enthusiasm for everything. in spite of having seen it all before many times. We hope to travel with Riviera again. PS Please ask Chris how Charlie is?!

I am writing to tell you how much my son and I enjoyed our recent 4 day visit to Bruges (18/21June) Our journey on Eurostar was excellent-we had the table seats in the middle of the carriage with a big picture window. As it was our first trip we felt very special. Diane - our Tour Manager - was so helpful, knowledge and informative so that we knew where and what was happening all the time We cannot speak too highly of her very professional services. The Brewery Tour was great fun, but make sure Inge is the guide as she made it so interesting and amusing. The visit to Tyn Cot ,Ypres and Hill 62 was a very moving experience, and well organised, never to be forgotten. Hotel Academie was very comfortable and provided an excellent breakfast menu. It seemed to be well situated very conveniently near the centre of the town and surrounding attractions We look forward to travelling with you again and thank you for your first class organisation on this occasion

We have just returned from a 4 day stay in Bruges and wanted to say how much we enjoyed it. The hotel Martin’s Bruges is located in the centre of Bruges and our room was excellent - very clean, good linen and lots of hot water for a relaxing bath after a long day sightseeing! The breakfasts were good with lots of choice and all dishes replenished regularly so that you could enjoy the full range on offer no matter what time you came down to the dining room. Our guide Dave was brilliant and did everything he could to make sure that we enjoyed our stay in Bruges. We would certainly travel with Riviera Travel again in the future.

What a wonderful experience! We had the best tour manager ever (Diane) and also the best coach driver (Eddie). Diane was unfailingly helpful, polite and courteous and regularly went the extra mile to lighten our load. This even extended to booking a table in a restaurant for us! Our hotel (Grand Hotel Casselberg) was extremely comfortable and central and the staff were helpful and friendly. We will certainly be having another Riviera Travel holiday in the future, and if possible we will try to ensure that Diane is our tour manager again next time!

Possibly the best courier we have ever travelled with. Please thank her.

Just arrived back from four days (well only three and a half really) from Bruges. Delightful place to stay for a city break, lots of things to see, places to visit, hundreds of restaurants, coffee shops, bars to sit and watch the world go by - and eat waffles, pancakes and apple pie. Grand Hotel Casselbergh highly recommended. Eurostar service excellent. Coach driver very efficient and comfortable coach. Courier Jean-Marie was wonderful. Visit to Ypres thought-provoking. Only downside was that we didn’t manage to fit everything in - so will have to go again!! Our first trip with Riviera but we will be back for more.

Returned from Bruges tour 7-10 July 2014 and would like to thank those concerned for attending to our special rail travel seating requests. It really did make my fussy husband very happy! We enjoyed the tour very much…..a big thank you to Cilla our tour manager for a job well done…....what with the weather and Lille station evacuations!!! A pity about the outward delay on Eurostar but have been well compensated. We are booked on the Rhine Valley and Strasbourg tour (Sept 2nd) and have requested the same rail travel seating arrangements on that booking too. Looking forward to it very much.

Just wanted to write to say what a lovely time we had on the tour - we saw all the usual sights in Bruges and Ypres, but wanted to say, first, that the Hotel Casselburgh was lovely. The breakfast was delicious, and the whole place was clean and wonderfully quiet for a town-centre location. We literally didn’t hear a single unwanted noise, the sort of noises you usually hear in a hotel - showers going, doors slamming etc. But the real reason why I’m writing is to say how fab our tour guide, Jean-Marie, was - he was kind, chatty, well-informed, endlessly hard-working, amusing, friendly. There was nothing more he could have done to make our holiday memorable - give the man a pay rise, he deserves it!

We have just returned from beautiful Bruges and have thoroughly enjoyed our 4 day excursion in and around Belgium. Our tour manager Mary was extremely welcoming and carried out the daily trips with precision. We particularly enjoyed our trip to the WW1 Ypres site and found the Tyne Cot cemetery really moving. Mary was knowledgeable about this particular region during the war and respectful of the fallen soldiers when we visited the sites. We also enjoyed the trip to the chocolate factory. A wonderful trip with our 6 adults who we went with. We would definitely recommend Riviera Travel company. It is top class. Many thanks.

This was our first trip with Riviera, following recommendation from friends. Our tour manager travelled with us on Eurostar, the coach was there waiting for us when we arrived in Lille and the check in at the Hotel Academie was very quick. Everything was extremely well organised, the tour of the Brewery, walk around Bruges, visit to chocolate maker, canal cruise and the trip to Tyne Cot cemetery, Hill 62 and Ypres. Our tour manager was very efficient, knowledgeable, friendly but professional. The Hotel was very nice, we had a lovely large ground floor room, overlooking the courtyard. We enjoyed our experience of Belgium very much and hope to visit again to explore the Country even further. We will certainly recommend Riviera to our friends and hope to travel with them again in the future.

We would like to thank Riviera Travel for such an efficiently organised escorted break. From the booking procedure, the organisation of travel from our home town to Bruges, the quality of the Hotel Academie and the friendliness of the staff and the choice of the itinerary, all were excellent. Most of all, we were very impressed with the friendly, professional and well informed guide, Kay. She was hard working (but didn’t gave the impression of it being hard work) and never seemed to be “off duty”, she made the whole tour a total success. Thank you Riviera Travel - we will keep an eye on other breaks you have in your collection for the future.

Just returned from 4 brilliant days in Bruges with Riviera travel. We travelled by eurostar and were met on board by our guide Pete, who informed us exactly what was going to happen when we arrived and how we would be transferred to the hotel. On arrival we were checked in quickly and the room was large, clean and modern.
From walking tours of Bruges to facts on the way to the battlefields, Pete was an informative and humorous tour guide who really knows his stuff. We saw the sights of Bruges, Flanders and Ypres and also had time to explore the different areas for ourselves.
The hotel is also conveniently placed for different restaurants serving different types of cuisine so you are never short of somewhere to eat whether you want expensive or cheap.
All in all, a superb short break full of facts and anecdotes!

Thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Bruges. The hotel Martin was very central. Our guide Francine was very helpful and took us on early trips, ie 9am, on the boat and walking and this was the best time to do it before the crowds gathered. Do walk around the city and get lost in the little cobbled streets and you will find wonderful views of windmills, canals and you might even find the oldest pub in Bruges which was a wonderful little place. Do take a horse and carriage ride, its a lovely way to see the town and very good value for the time you get, and do walk up the bell tower, lots of steps but stopping places and a great view from the top. I’d highly recommend this trip.

This was our first experience of Riviera Travel and it was all that we hoped for. All the documentation came through on time and there were no problems with the travel arrangements. Our tour manager Keith was excellent and very knowledgeable and our hotel was very comfortable, clean and well situated for access to Bruges city centre. Breakfast was very good. Our only suggestion would be that the organised trip to Ypres should include the 8.00pm ceremony at the Menin Gate which we attended after Keith organised return transport for us by taxi.

We returned yesterday from a wonderful short trip to Bruges. Our hotel Martins Bruges, we felt was adequate, but the main reason we are contacting you today is to let you know that our Tour Manager, Dave, was brilliant. He was organised, helpful, and extremely knowledgeable about the area we were visiting. Dave had time for every person on the tour providing us with guidance and tips on how to enjoy our time in Bruges. From the walking tour of Bruges town to the trip to Ypres Dave provided us with information and delivered it with passion and, at the appropriate times, humour. After being on tours in previous years and with other companies we would not hesitate to recommend Riviera Travel due to the great organisation and service received.

It is the first time we have used Riviera Travel and we were both so impressed with the holiday overall that we wanted to write to tell you. The tour manager, Keith, was brilliant. He looked after us from start to finish, was very informative, always professional and smartly dressed. I would call him a “gentleman of the old school”. The optional tours were superb and the Hotel Academie centrally situated and very comfortable. I would certainly consider “Riviera Travel” again and will recommend your company.

Having returned this week from our mini holiday to Bruges I felt I had to write to say how much my mother and I enjoyed the trip. It was very well organised from the moment we met our tour manager Diane on the Eurostar, to the excursions we decided to go on, right up until we were back on the Eurostar going home, and the people on the trip with us were lovely. We seemed to pack a lot in but still had time to relax and do our own thing. We stayed at the Grand Hotel Casselbergh which was beautiful and extremely comfortable- the breakfasts were delicious. Diane was a fountain of knowledge and she made everything sound so interesting and was on hand in case we needed her for anything. The highlight of the trip was a visit to Ypres which was informative, but very moving. My only gripe is that we would have liked longer to walk round the town and to spend in the Flanders museum and seeing as this year is the 100th anniversary of World War One, we would have liked to have stayed to hear The Last Post at the Menin Gate. Aside from this, the holiday was fabulous- thank you very much. Highly recommended.

Our trip to Bruges was all that we expected and more, made so enjoyable by our tour guide, Sue. Nothing was too much bother for her and she went out of her way to assist the tourists. The canal trip was a must, the trip to Ypres very interesting but disappointed we didn’t get to hear the Last Post at the Menin Gate. We had a lovely pot of mussels at Four Winds, right on the market square, and Delaney’s Irish Pub serves delicious food. Hotel Martins was in a good location, and thanks to Karen who answered all our emails promptly. A wonderful experience, thanks Riviera and again, Sue, our tour leader…..Val & Brian Atkinson, Melbourne, Australia 21st August, 2014

Hi there, We returned yesterday from a fabulous Riviera holiday to Bruges. From start to finish the whole holiday was well-organised and enjoyable. We were met at Lille by the fantastic guide, Chris, straight onto the coach to Bruges, arriving in time for a quick wash and brush up before she took us on a brief walk into the centre just to give us an idea. Chris is a great ambassador for Riviera. She has an uncanny knack of knowing just how much information and organisation people want. The proper guided tour the next day was very interesting and informative. The trip to Ypres, again, coach arrived promptly (thank you, driver Johan) and a great day out was enjoyed by all. The brewery and the chocolate maker were interesting too. Everything happened as it should, the hotel was clean, comfortable and the breakfast delicious and plentiful. Congratulations on providing such excellent service to your customers. We would certainly like to travel with you again.

We returned last night from our 3 night trip to Bruges. Bruges was even more beautiful than we had expected and we enjoyed everything about our trip. Our guide, Max, was excellent, extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, and this added to our enjoyment of the trip. Our hotel, Martins, is extremely well located and very comfortable; we stayed in room 159 on the third floor, with views of the Belfry. Breakfast offered a great choice of hot and cold food, which was delicious. Riviera Travel had been recommended to us by friends who have travelled to several destinations with the company - we were not disappointed, everything was seamless and professional, and we hope it will not be very long before we book our next trip with Riviera. Thank you for a great break!

Just returned from trip to Bruges with Riviera. Absolutely excellent Hotel Academie very good, clean and well placed for everything. Rooms good and so much to choose from at breakfast and the staff very friendly and helpful. Ypres and In Flanders Field Museum very interesting and moving, as was Tyn Cott. Many thanks to Jean-Marie our tour guide so knowledgeable and pointed us in right direction for the best places to eat and had extensive knowledge of places we should visit and looked after us so well. Could have done with another day. This is my second trip with Riviera and would definitely travel with them again and thoroughly recommend them.

We have just returned from a wonderful 4 day trip to Bruges and we would like to say how excellent Diane our tour guide was. She was very informative, entertaining and always very professional. The trip itself we cannot fault, so we’ll organised and all the trips, especially our day trip to Ypres and cemetery was very moving.
The hotel Casselburgh was first class, comfortable and the breakfast was Wow, had everything.
Finally, all the other people on the trip were lovely and we would definitely do another Riviera Travel holiday.

Tony our tour manager met us on the Eurostar and looked after us very well during our stay and especially on the tours when he was very informative. Martins Brugge Hotel was central and the breakfasts were excellent. We have recommended Riveria to our friends and would not hesitate to book with them again. Thank you Jacqueline and Celia

Our first time with Riviera! Everything ran smoothly, the tours were always informative and interesting. The hotel (Martins Brugge) was clean and the breakfasts were lovely, so much to choose from. Sue our tour guide was exceptional. One of our party had limited mobility and another was newly blind in one eye. Sue gave us all the information we needed and assistance when necessary. We had a great time. We are recommending Riviera to our friends and family and would definitely travel with them again. Thanks to Sue and also to the office staff for making it easier to travel.

We’ve just returned from a trip with your company to Bruges. 27th - 30th August 2014. This was our first trip with your company and we would like to tell you how much we enjoyed the short break and how efficient we think ‘Riviera Travel’ is. Everything from the travel to and from Bruges, and the coach tours was very well organised. We also thought that the Tour Guide (Pete) was extremely helpful and very well informed. He helped to make our stay in Bruges and our trip to Ypres a very pleasant and interesting one. Many thanks,

Thank you Riviera for such a brilliantly organised visit to Bruges. There is simply no way that I would have been able to plan, integrate or even know about all of the outings and recommendations . Francine was very knowledgeable and informative about all local information and history and has a most relaxed and friendly style with everyone. Thank you for a seamless trip.

Just back last night from a wonderful 4 day trip to Bruges organised by Riviera Travel. From being met at Lille Eurostar terminal to our goodbyes our tour manager Chris was truly excellent. We have travelled to many places in the past with various operators but never had someone so good at their job. Her presentation of information/knowledge about Bruges and the region was so interesting - never too much or too little! We thank Riviera for the choice of hotel too - Martins Brugge, whose facilities and location (so central for the main square) all made for a great break. Thoroughly recommend it.

I booked this short break as a surprise for my husbands 60th birthday and he has not stopped talking about it since our return! We had a wonderful and most memorable time and cannot wait to book another destination with Riviera Travel. We cannot fault a thing, from the hotel (Martins Brugge) to our guide Francine, who went above and beyond to make our time as enjoyable as possible. THANK YOU.

We went from York to Kings Cross over to ST Pancras and caught Eurostar. During our trip our tour manager caught with us, introduced himself and gave us a run down regarding catching the coach. We arrived in Bruges, straight to our hotel the Grand Castelburgh( I think). What a fabulous hotel, great rooms and the whole place was spotless. Dave offered us a quick tour of the city that evening which most of us took. The following morning was a walking tour of the city, and then a trip round a brewery, at 4.00pm we gathered to go on a canal boat tour. On Tuesday it was off to Passchendaele and Ypres, the organisation of the tours was first class. We have not used Riviera before but after this we sure will again. Our tour manager, Dave, was first class, nothing was too much trouble

Thank you for a wonderful trip to Bruges. Our tour guide, Sue, was very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful and made the trip most enjoyable. We stayed at the Golden Tree Hotel, in one of the newly refurbished courtyard rooms, which were spacious, well appointed and modern. The trip to Ypres and Tyne Cot cemetery was well organised and very informative. The chocolate demonstration was interesting although not good for your waist line!! Thank you once again Riviera for a well organised and enjoyable trip. I would have no hesitation in recommending your tours to family and friends.

I am writing to say what a wonderful holiday we have just had in Bruges travelling with Riviera Travel on Eurostar for the very first time.
Our trip to Bruges was to celebrate Melvyn’s 70th Birthday and we could not have bettered it anywhere. The majority of the reason for that was the lovely group of people combined with superb organisation by your company but mostly the wonderful Tour Guide, Sue.
Sue was passionate about Riviera Travel and was one of those people who went the extra mile to ensure that we all had a good time. Her organisation was superb and she was very reassuring in particular towards the elderly people in the group.
We had never travelled with Riviera before although we had heard of you as some friends had recommended a river cruise. I can assure you that we will certainly look forward to another trip with your company.
We did thank Sue when we returned to St.Pancras but please pass on our grateful thanks to her and wish her all the very best for the future from us.
I have attached a photo which I took on the Ypres trip and wondered whether you could forward it to Sue for me.
Keep up the good work – Riviera Travel is by far the best Travel Company we have ever come across. Many thanks and Best wishes for the future

My wife and I have just returned from a short break in Bruges staying at the excellent Hotel Acadamie. We had a really enjoyable visit, helped immensely by the efficient, knowledgeable, friendly and helpful tour Manager, Chris, for whom nothing was too much trouble. The only thing I would say is that the Flanders Field Museum was so fascinating that we would have liked to have spent more time there, but that is a personal thing and may not be the same for everyone. This was our first trip with Riviera but everything went so well that it won’t be our last. Everything was so well organised: our tickets, paperwork and travel instructions arrived in good time and we had no anxious moments. Thank You.

Good morning, we have just returned from a four day trip to Bruges and wanted to express our appreciation of your tour manager Sue. She was unfailingly informative and cheerful despite some of our group determined to get lost no matter how many times she patiently explained times and pick up locations. Thank you Sue for making our trip so memorable. If she is typical of your tour guides we will certainly chose your company again.

My friend Mrs G Callard booked 8 - 11 September at the Golden Tree hotel. Travelling arrangements were perfect and although we were disappointed that the promised teas-maid was not available in our room, nonetheless coffee/tea was provided to collect at the end of the day Accommodation was very good and the breakfast was of the very highest standard. Of course your star act was Sue your courier I believe of many years. She was simply out of this world with her knowledge/thoughtfulness and kindness at all times. Quite an amazing lady and because of the standard she has set for your company I will be booking your Paris holiday - I would appreciate full details being emailed if possible to me. Once again we had a great holiday - please do let Sue be aware of this email - she truly is inspiration for all couriers who unfortunately would never be able to match her. Regards

We had a wonderful tour. Francine was a great tour leader, the best we have had. Our only quibble was that the hotel said they could not give us two keys for our twin room, which meant that in our free time it was difficult for us to go about separately. Apart from that, the room and bathroom facilities were good and the breakfasts were very good with a wide choice.

We have just enjoyed a short break at the Hotel Academie. This is a lovely hotel, ideally located near enough to the middle of Bruges to walk, but in a quiet side street so the only noise was from the horses hooves as the carriages passed by. We found the room clean, comfortable and of good size. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Sue, our tour manager was outstanding. She made clear everything we needed to know and made our holiday run very smoothly. She was always available to help with any issues. This was our first with Riviera and one of the most enjoyable holidays we have had. I would recommend it to anyone. Well done Riviera!

The hotel was excellent and the tours interesting and informative, whilst still having a balanced amount of free time. Sue was excellent and had a lovely caring manner, nothing was too much trouble and a true professional ambassador for Riviera. Excellent recommendations for restaurants, Belle Époque being our favourite. This was our third trip with Riviera and we will definitely be booking a break with you next year.

Got back from our 4 day trip to Bruges on Saturday evening and just wanted to say how much we enjoyed the trip. The arrangements went like clockwork, the hotel was great with a very central location, but most of all we wanted to compliment Michelle Eden, our Tour Manager, who besides being a very nice person, was very efficient, knowledgeable but did her job in a very relaxing manner. She also organised for us to stay later in Ypres so we could attend the Last Post ceremony at the Menin gate which was a very moving experience - thank you. Regards,

We have just got back from a very enjoyable tour, staying at the Hotel Academie. The hotel was excellent, as was it’s central position, just right for exploring. Our tour guide Pete B (little Pete) was extremely informative and in particular we liked the short orientation walk on the first night, pointing out the good restaurants! On this tour you never felted rushed, as we always proceeding at the speed of the slowest amongst us. This was out first trip to Bruges, and also our first trip with Riviera. We shall be returning to both!!!

What a great little trip! Travel arrangements all went to plan, hotel (Martin’s) in the shadow of the belfry so couldn’t be more central, and guide Dave kept his sense of humour throughout and didn’t lose any of us on our many strolls around the town - some good tips and restaurant recommendations too. Only one thing - make the Ypres trip a little later so everyone can stay for the Last Post ceremony. We did, but it was a bit rushed and we had to make our own way back by train (but that was all part of the adventure for us). I look forward to seeing which of your trips we can get on next year. Thanks.

My mother and I have just returned from this great trip to Bruges. Everything from start to finish was very well organised and easy for us. The Hotel Academie was well situated especially for some very good restaurants - ideal for after a day of sight seeing. It was clean and very comfortable and the staff were always very friendly and helpful. Our tour guide Michelle was excellent and always gave plenty of information. The harp concert was a joy to listen to and a lovely extra on our trip. Thank you very much for making our trip so enjoyable.

My husband and I and two friends have just returned from a very enjoyable short break in Bruges. We must congratulate Riviera Travel on the efficiency of their travel arrangements. Our hotel - The Golden Tree, was excellent. Our rooms in the courtyard were spacious, modern and very clean. (Just one disappointment - no tea making facilities!) Our Tour Manager, Keith, was a mine of information, very knowledgeable and helpful. When we asked him if it would be possible to visit the recently unveiled Welsh War Memorial in Langemark, he took us to the Tourist Information Office in Ypres and arranged for us to go by taxi to see it. Thank you Keith - very much appreciated. Raymond, Olwen, Barry and Lona Jones

This was our second trip with Riviera Travel which is recommendation enough. Pete our guide was very knowledgeable about Bruges & an asset to us as we did some WW1 research at Tyne Cot & the Menin Gate. One tip though - wear proper walking shoes in Bruges. lt is all cobbled & slippery if wet. It is a wonderful place to visit.

What a fantastic trip! The Hotel (Dukes Palace) was excellent and the breakfasts superb (including chocolate and champagne). Our tour guide, Bernadette, was so knowledgeable about the area and also pointed us in the direction of some lovely restaurants. She was a star and we can’t praise her enough! Even the coaches were top quality and the drivers were very professional. We never heard anyone on the tour moan about anything - indeed there was nothing at all to complain about. We took a gamble by booking with Riviera Travel as we had not used them before. The gamble paid off ‘big time’ and we will definitely travel with them again.

The trips on offer were all well organised and very interesting. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

This was our first holiday with Riviera and will not be the last. We both loved Bruges and our enjoyment was enhanced by the knowledge and personality of our Tour Manager Keith, if all your Tour managers are as half as good as Keith then Riviera Travel must have a very strong team. We found lots of really nice affordable places to eat once we had been reminded to check the menu cost before eating, as some of the eateries overlooking the main square were expensive. The Trips to Tyne Cot Cemetery, Hill 62 and Ypres were excellent. Our hosts at the Golden Tree Hotel were really good and couldn’t do enough for us. They even lined up to wave goodbye when the coach departed for home.

The other people on the trip were a really nice bunch, you could not have wanted better travelling companions. Bruges is an unbelievable place with plenty to see and do, visiting the museums etc. in your free time, you are also spoilt for dining and drinking, wonderful restaurants everywhere, and the chocolate, well what can one say, wonderful. We truly enjoyed this short break in Bruges, a beautiful city, pristine and friendly. The Hotel Academie was very clean and comfortable with friendly staff and a good location for exploring the city. The side trip to Tyne Cot Cemetery, Sanctuary Wood and Ypres was a great addition and the input from our tour guide Angus enhanced our understanding of the terrible events of the Ypres Salient. The group also were an unbelievably great bunch of people, shame I never got any of their details , should have, would be happy to be on any trip with any of them. This was our second outing with Riviera this year, went to Paris in August with you and was so impressed I booked another city break in Bruges. The best bit about both trips was our tour manager ANGUS. We were so impressed with his depth of knowledge on the Paris trip and were thrilled and delighted that he was to be with us again in Bruges. Again, his encyclopedic knowledge was astounding. Also, nothing was too much trouble, he was kind courteous and entertaining. Riviera seem to have a knack of sourcing good clean hotels. Your tour manager, Noel, was most efficient and his walking tour of Bruges was both informative and humorous. We were kept abreast of all travel & other arrangements and both outgoing & return journeys were undertaken without any delays or hassles.
The hotel we found to be first class being well positioned , the staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were very comfortable and clean and the breakfasts of high quality.

Our tour guide Phillipa was excellent, with a wicked sense of humour . She was very informative and kept us up to date with everything which was on offer. The specialist guide on Remembrance Sunday, Jeremy Banning was also excellent. He was incredibly knowledgable and very interesting and well worth having . The hotel was good with good breakfasts. Travel arrangements worked well, although living just south of Manchester , I would perhaps next time make my own travel arrangements up to London.
They even arranged amazing weather for us. The other people on the tour were all lovely and easy to get on with. It was our first time with Riviera and we would consider using them in the future.

I booked me and my boyfriend Richard to go to Bruges for his 40th birthday. Both Bruges and Riviera Travel were highly recommended by a friend of ours that use them year after year. We were pleased with everything, from the easy booking process through to us meeting our fantastic tour guide Viv. The only thing I would say is that this trip is just a taster as there is just way too much to cover in Bruges in the 4 days and you would need more than 2 hours in Ypres to see everything. It’s a shame we didn’t find out till it was too late that people stayed on at Ypres for the last post and got a taxi back to the hotel as we would’ve done the same if it was offered to us as an option. We will definitely be returning to Bruges in the future for a longer stay and were very happy with Martins Hotel. Very clean and the staff were very helpful. Many thanks for an enjoyable experience

We have just returned from a magical four day visit to Bruges. Everything about it was marvellous . Our tour guide, Annette, was brilliant - very knowledgeable with just the right amount of interaction. The hotel, The Academie, was lovely and comfortable with great breakfasts and comfortable rooms. It is also in a great location, close to all the places of interest we wanted to see. It was a great introduction to Bruges which has whetted our appetite for a return visit. Thank you Annette and thank you Riviera.

We have just returned from a delightful weekend in Bruges with Riviera Travel. Our tour manager Phillippa did a fantastic job guiding us around Bruges and ensuring that we all knew where we had to be and when. Her knowledge and enthusiasm for the town of Bruges was most impressive. Our day spent with Jeremy Banning was outstanding. He was able to give us a first rate account of the events of World War I and bring them home to us at a very personal level, it certainly was not just ‘dry’ history. The weekend was for us a very memorable event, many thanks. We hope you will keep us informed of similar holidays, especially if Jeremy Banning will be taking part.

Just returned at the weekend from your tour to Bruges and the WW1 battlefields. We were delighted with the whole experience. We were also extremely impressed and delighted with our tour guide Sue. She was a lady with a vast amount on knowledge which she shared with enthusiasm and panache. The whole experience flowed well and we would have no hesitation in using Riviera travel again and recommending you to friends. P.S. even the weather on the Friday and Saturday failed to dampen our pleasure.

My 3 friends and I have just returned from a short break trip to Bruges arranged through Riviera Travel. We want to tell you how much we enjoyed our few days in Belgium. Our stay was made more memorable because of the excellent service provided by your tour courier Annette. She really is a superb guide - actually the best tour guide we’ve had on our frequent travels. We were pleasantly surprised that she joined us on the train from St. Pancras to guide us, inform us and entertain us with her detailed knowledge on every part of our holiday. Annette was always cheerful, friendly and highly efficient. In her commentaries about places visited, she conveyed a genuine and intelligent delivery which was never monotonous or boring. My friends and I stayed at the Academie Hotel, which is of a good standard and in an excellent location. The area immediately surrounding the hotel is so beautiful that we felt we could have been on a film set! The location is away from busy traffic so never felt hectic and we were able to have undisturbed sleep at night - but also very convenient for easy walking around town. We really enjoyed the trip to Ypres on the day when the big commemoration ceremonies for the first world war took place. We had not realized this event was taking place when we booked our holiday. My friends and I travel a lot and this is the first time we’ve used your company. We were very impressed with the service and value for money provided and would have no hesitation in using your company again and recommending you to other people.

As usual, Riviera delivered, from the start of our journey to the return. We had the most wonderful break in beautiful Bruges, with visits to Ypres, the Menin Gate and the Tyne Cot cemetery. Angus our tour guide was most knowledgable and gave us all masses of information and was very entertaining. The whole group got on so well, it was a delight to meet them all. Thank you, Riviera and keep up your fantastic reputation for giving your customers exactly what they want in holidays.

This was our first tour with Riviera Travel so we didn’t know what to expect. Suffice to say it was very well organised and excellent value for money. Our booking was made quite close to the departure date so it was necessary to speak to the office based staff in Burton-on-Trent a couple of times and they were most helpful. The Tour Manager, Phillipa, was first class and was always friendly and informative whilst being well organised and efficient. Full marks to her. We participated in all the optional trips which were interesting and gave a good appreciation of Bruges, which we had never been to before. Even the weather was kind to us and with overnight rain and sunny days. The trip to Flanders Fields was particularly good and Jeremy Banning, who was a mine of information, made sure we visited as many interesting locations as possible within the day. Being the Remembrance Sunday made it especially poignant, especially at the 8pm service at the Menin Gate in Ypres. Also the choice of restaurant for the included dinner in Ypres was first class. We would highly recommend this tour to future customers should it be repeated.

My wife and I decided to do a side trip while visiting relatives in England. I booked from Canada and was very pleasantly surprised at how well things went as we usually book everything ourselves. Riviera did an outstanding job. Our tour guide, Annette, was very helpful and knowledgeable. The hotel St. Martins was perfectly situated in order to explore all the sights of Bruges. Hats off to Riviera travel! We will be looking forward to booking more trips in the future.

Thank you for a very interesting and educational visit. Pete, our Rep, was great - very knowledgeable and quite possibly one of the best reps I’ve had. I’ve used Riviera quite a few times, and I think it’s fair to say that my first port of call when looking at holidays is your website. I have recommended you to a number of my friends, and you have never yet disappointed. Bruges itself is absolutely stunning, and Ieper (Ypres) was incredibly interesting and well worth the visit. You even managed to arrange the weather well for us! I would love to go back to Bruges, and I would certainly use Riviera again to do so.

A group of seven of us have just returned from our break in Bruges. We have had the most amazing time with a mixture of culture, history, food and beer! Annette our tour manager kindly facilitated our evening trip to the Menin gate in Ypres for the last post, which was poignant and so worthwhile. This tour is excellent value for money and we were ideally situated in the center of the town. Everything ran smoothly and the whole trip was so relaxing with no stress. We would have no hesitation in recommending it to our friends and family and will be using Riviera again.
Review by Sue Lambert on 8 March 2015
This was our first trip with Riviera Travel and it will not be our last. We had never visited Bruges before and found it a feast for the eyes. We really appreciated all of the tours organised by our excellent guide, Annette, as it makes such a difference seeing the world through knowledgeable eyes . For those people going on the Brewery tour try to ensure you have Inge as your tour guide, her droll sense of humour was very entertaining. The highlight of the tour was the day spent at Flanders and Ypes, especially the small museum with the original trenches. The whole day including Tyne Cot, The Mennen Gate and the Flanders Field Museum was quite emotional.
We stayed at Martin’s Brugge which was very comfortable and in a splendid location right behind The Bell Tower and the Market. Thank you Annette and Riviera Travel for an unforgettable 4 days.

What excellent value for money! Just returned from the 4 day trip to Bruges and needed to let you know how much we enjoyed it. The hotel is a 2 minute walk from the square and once you get your bearings the perfect location for getting to any of the places of interest. The breakfast was also good and varied. Our guide was Dave who was a ‘star’, carrying interesting and usually funny information in his head, and was readily available to offer help or advice. The tour round the brewery is very interesting and has a lovely guide with an unusual sense of humour. The beer is also great. The trip to the 1st WW cemeteries is poignant and an eye opener. It was a surprise how much you could fit into this short trip to a truly interesting region. We were impressed with the organisation of the trip but at the same time you never felt ‘over organised’. Thank you Riviera Travel.

We have just returned from Bruges - our 3rd trip with the company. Excellent as usual - travel arrangements/tour guide/hotel! Again a mix of organised tours - which you could take up or not. Dave the tour guide was superb and the hotel really central and staff and accommodation superb! Before we travelled with Riviera we thought we were a bit young for coach tours as we are in our 50’s - but the mix of age group on the trips we have been on has been wide and all catered for and it is a brilliant way to see Europe! Just looking on the website to see where we are going next!

What a great few days. Riviera Travel couldn’t be better. Hotel, travel, tours all first class. There were six of us travelling together with differing needs. Dave the guide in our resort was so informative and so helpful. We would never have been able to collect all the information that was fed to us. Dave was great remembering names and dates so impressively. The Martin Brugge Hotel was ideally situated and made exploring much easier. We packed so much into our four days. Hurray for Riviera Travel. We shall certainly be going to more of their destinations. Thanks from our group.

I have just returned home today having experienced a wonderful 4 days on your Bruges tour. Everything was so easy, from receiving the pre-booked rail tickets to the last train journey home. Our guide Rosey was patient, helpful and knowledgable and I felt confident that this was going to be good from the moment she greeted us in London. She juggled the itinerary so that we got the best of the weather to suit the activity and it worked out perfectly. The tours were well organised and interesting and Rosey gave informative commentary without overkill. The Hotel Acadamie was very well situated to give quick access to the sights of Bruges and free leisure time was therefore never wasted by having to make long treks to see things. It was clean, warm and friendly and the extensive breakfast buffet set me up perfectly for the day ahead. I have thoroughly enjoyed this tour and I am looking forward to choosing my next one.

We booked your Bruges trip for March 8th -11th, for 4 of us and I just wanted to thank you for a superb trip. The organisation was first class, the guide Chris was very knowledgeable, hotel in a great location and the itinerary, including Ypres and Tyne Cot meant that we saw so much in just a few days. We were recommended your company by friends and although this was our first trip with you, it won’t be our last!! We are already trying to agree dates and locations.

My husband and I have just returned from Bruges and we have nothing but praise for the way the whole trip was organised! We could fault nothing- the hotel and their hospitality was excellent and very convenient for the main attractions, the arranged tours were extremely informative and there was a good balance between group and personal activities. The day trip to Ypres was very moving and well planned. Finally we could not have had a better tour manager- Sue, we thank you so much for your happy, friendly approach to this holiday. We now have many happy memories of Bruges! We will be recommending these holidays to family and friends and will hopefully be booking with you again ourselves in the near future.

Having been on a previous Riviera Tour to Paris, which we really enjoyed, we looked forward to having another great time on the Bruges Tour. We weren’t disappointed. Our host Jean-Marie was exceptional with tremendous knowledge. He is so friendly and approachable and willing to give advice or just chat. The hotel Grand Casselbergh is first class and well situated in the centre of Bruges. The trip to Ypres was great and again Jean-Marie’s knowledge impressive. The only thing I would change would be the departure time. I know this gives more time in Bruges but I am the type of traveller who prefers to get home as quickly as possible on departure day. It didn’t in anyway spoil what was another tremendous short break with Riviera. We are already looking at the Kraków tour next.

This was the first time my husband and I have gone on an organised tour and so glad we did! The organisation of the travel arrangements was excellent, and Bernadette, our tour guide, was calm, very informative and made sure everyone was enjoying the trip. There was a lovely balance between organised activities and free time- Just step out of the Hotel Academie in a very quiet side street, and head into the city where all the places of interest are in walking distance. Our visit to the war graves at Tiny Cot then the wonderful museum at Ypres gave us a poignant insight into the terrible conditions endured by the soldiers- most of them boys- in WW1. We are already looking at other holidays organised by Riviera Travel and cannot praise the company highly enough.

This was our first Riviera tour. Travel was efficient and stress free. The hotel Golden Tree was well located. The rooms were clean, warm and of a reasonable size, decent shower in the en suite. Good breakfast. Our tour guide Sue was excellent. She was very informative and full of local knowledge. Sue was very friendly and extremely helpful when my husband was unwell on one of the days. We missed the visit to Ypres, so will have to make a return visit. We will certainly book this with yourselves.

My wife and I and our two friends have just returned from our Bruges tour, the whole trip was well planned and our guide Hannie was a joy, her knowledge really enhanced our holiday. The Hotel Acadamie was excellent and within easy walking distance of all the important parts of Bruges and some fine and inexpensive restaurants. We would have preferred an earlier outward journey from London but that is our only criticism.

Having arrived back from the most wonderful trip to Bruges with your company, we cannot thank you enough for such a well organised experience. It was our 43rd Wedding Anniversary the day we travelled and not having been on the Euro Star before was very dubious but on meeting Keith your excellent Tour Guide on the Euro Star we relaxed and everything went like clockwork and will definitely not be phased by going on Euro Star again, how easy an experience it is. Keith was so informative and helpful he made the trip so relaxing and enjoyable. We are definitely going to come on further trips with yourselves and will recommend you to friends and family with all the confidence that they too will enjoy this experience. Please extend once again our thanks to Keith he is a treasure and a credit to your company. This was our second tour with Riviera and we really enjoyed it. Our tour guide, Vic, was first class and our coach driver Mario was excellent. The time in Bruges gave us plenty of time to do what we wanted to do. Our main reason for booking this tour was to visit Ypres and the Flanders battlefields. This was a memorable day and gave us free time in Ypres. Travel and Hotel were very good. We shall be definitely looking at your brochure for future holiday inspiration.

Arrived back yesterday from our first visit to Bruges with Riviera Travel. We enjoyed a lovely relaxing stay at Hotel Academie. A very clean hotel, served a very tasty breakfast. Our tour guide, Noel, was extremely helpful. He put up an information sheet in the hotel lobby, giving excursions and times. We went on a walking tour of the city, where information was given to us about the places of interest. Throughout the visit to the Tyne Cot Cemetery at Passchendale, Hill 62 (Sanctuary Wood) and Ypres, Noel gave us an insight to the history of the area. A very moving experience. Really would have liked longer at Tyne Cot. A very enjoyable trip with lovely company and an excellent tour guide. Thank you very much.

What a fantastic short break to a beautiful city of Bruges. The organisation provided by Riviera was first rate and the tour manager Norman met us on the Eurostar and went through the itinerary and arrival process at the hotel. Throughout the tour we were impressed with Norman and his level of attention to all the guests. On the journey home there was a long delay on Eurostar due to a medical emergency, nothing related to our group, but Norman arranged for the Guard to stamp all our onward rail tickets, as we had missed our connecting train, to enable us to catch a later train without financial penalty. Norman even remained at the St Pancras Station and ensured all the group had resolved their onward travel arrangement, such was his level of care.
We stayed at the Martins Brugge Hotel which was very clean and the room was spacious. Continental breakfast was plentiful.
Excellent value for money and this was our first trip with Riviera and we will certainly be using them again.

From the moment we met our Guide Noel Winters in the carriage of Eurostar to the moment we left on our return we were well looked after - especially as the return journey was delayed by nearly 2 hours. As we departed from the station Noel was there to ensure that we were able to travel onwards despite the long delay. The itinerary was well organised by Noel and he was sensitive to the needs of each individual person. He gave clear information but did not over load us with information. He was well informed on the city of Bruges and also the day spent at Ypres and the war graves. It was our first experience of travelling with Riviera Travel but I have already recommended the company to friends. Thank you for a wonderful holiday. Jacquie and Cathy Curry

We loved this interesting tour of Bruges. Our tour guide, Norman, was very kind and looked after everyone very well, including the trip on the eurostar there and back. His dedication to his group was over and above the call of duty. He is certainly a credit to Riviera Travel as nothing was too much trouble. The itinerary was excellent for a short break, and optional. The trip to the war graves was very moving. The Martin Hotel was ideally placed in the centre of town and our bedroom was clean and light and had everything we needed to enjoy our holiday and also provided a good breakfast One thing I would say it would be worth ordering a taxi, as Norman suggested, to the coach station for the Ypres Trip as it is quite a long way to walk.

We had a wonderful trip to the delightful city of Bruges and we were extremely lucky to have such a experienced and wonderful guide as Angus. He looked after us all so well and his knoweldge and history were exceptional. Everything was so well organised and smoothly run. Angus went the extra mile to make sure everyone was looked after and happy and he is a real credit and asset to Riviera Travel. The Martins Bruge Hotel was in a great location and the choice of restaurants and cafes was amazing. We loved the canal cruise and the horse carriage ride. A really lovely break and we will certainly use Riviera again. Thank you.

I am writing to say how much I enjoyed my recent break in Bruges. This was largely due to the excellent guide Angus. His knowledge of Bruges and the history was amazing. The trip to Ypres and the first world war museums was so informative that it brought the full horror of it all to life. My husband and I thought that Angus was one of the best guides we have met over the years. The programme for the trip was well planned with plenty of free time. The Martin Brugge Hotel is well placed in the centre of Bruges. Breakfast was excellent. My only criticism is that the bedroom was rather cramped and hot. Perhaps we were just unlucky. This was our first trip with Riviera Travel and we will certainly be booking with you again.

Bruges is a lovely place to visit perfectly illuminated by our guide Pete- always so knowledgeable, interesting, pleasant and caring. Pete met us on the Eurostar and from that moment he ensured that the transfers were smooth and efficient. Pete was always there in the background with help if it was needed. He truly was a superb guide for explaining the best of Bruges. The hotel was a very good 3 star and very comfortable, based a few hundred yards from the main square and breakfast was very good too. The coach trips were always on time and the journey times never more than 50 minutes. There was plenty of free time and no pressure to join the group tours if you preferred to do your own thing. Overall I would say that Riviera did a marvellous job and in Pete they have a top tour guide.

I would just like to say how much we enjoyed our break to Bruges, from which we returned last week. The trip was extremely well organised, the hotel Casselbergh was one of the best hotels we have stayed in and of course Bruges was beautiful especially as the weather was so kind to us. However the reason I am writing is to say a particular thank you for booking the forward facing seats on all the trains as I had requested. You were not sure if it was possible when I rang but you managed to arrange it and as I am travel sick it made such a difference to our trip. Many thanks and we look forward to travelling with Riviera again.

To say that we were impressed is an understatement - it was quite superb from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. His knowledge of just about everything to do with the trip was second to none - you are lucky to have such a person amongst your staff but somehow, we expect all your guides are the same! We managed to see such a lot but not enough and hope to return some time next year. Once again, our sincere thanks for a memorable trip. Kind regards

The Grand Hotel Casselbergh was excellent and ideally placed in the centre of Bruges. All outward and return travel arrangements were well organised and allowed plenty of time for all connections. Our visit to Tyne Cot cemetery, Hill 62 and Ypres was very interesting although very sad and on our visit to the Menin Gate we managed to find the name of a relative missing in 1914. Just spent a wonderful four days in Bruges at the Casselburgh Hotel. It has a fabulous 16th century cellar with a state of the art Spa Center which we couldn’t take advantage of as there was so much to do. Michele our guide showed us around with great wisdom & wit but with equal reverence and respect on our Flanders day. We would be happy to take a group of our friends back on a return visit and hope to have Michele as our guide. Well done Riviera for such a well organised and professional tour.

Dave the tour manager was very knowledgeable and helpful in every way. The Golden Tree Hotel was very comfortable, clean and within easy reach of amenities. First class tour of Ypres and associated locations, very moving. We will certainly travel with Riviera again - already planning future trips. Thank you.

We’ve just returned from a Riviera Tour to Bruges. Excellent itinerary and very well planned. Hotel Martins central and very comfortable, staff very helpful and cheerful. Above all our tour manager, Pete, made the whole trip superb. He was very knowledgeable, always helpful and cheerful, nothing was too much trouble. Would recommend.

Four of us traveled together - one of our group uses a wheelchair. Peter the Tour Manager spotted us at St Pancras where we were having a coffee before booking in. He introduced himself to us and made sure the journey was trouble free. Our hotel was excellent and the trip to Ypres was very well organised and worth the visit. Over all we all agreed that Peter was perfect for the job - not in your face but there when you needed.
Bruges is a beautiful place to visit and Riviara Travel an excellent tour company.

We have recently returned from a trip to Bruges. All connections worked perfectly and the tour manager, Pete, was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble for him, he actually went out of his way to help us find my grandfather’s grave. His knowledge of Bruges, the Ypres area and Lille station greatly enhanced our enjoyment of the whole trip. He is a real gem. Martin’s hotel was a lovely hotel, centrally located with friendly and helpful staff . Overall a most enjoyable tour.

This is the second time that we have travelled with Riviera and the first time to Bruges. What a lovely, delightful place. It was a trip for my birthday and the Hotel Casselbergh was the best hotel we have stayed in for a long time. It was central to everything and the building itself was a gem with chandeliers and deep comfy seats in the bar areas. The breakfast was something else, food fit for a king whether you wanted hot or cold. The trip was well planned from us joining at our local station to getting off Eurostar in Lille and the excursions were excellent. We went to Tyne Cote which was a beautiful, serene place and very moving, as was the Flanders Field Museum. I wouldn’t hesitate to book again with this company, they seem to have got it just right. Looking forward to going again with them in the not too distant future.

Although the weather was very mixed our tour to Bruges could not have been better. Our tour guide Kay was very knowledgeable about the area and took us to some interesting sites. The hotel St. Martins is situated only a few yards away from the main market square, the rooms are very nice as is also the staff. The journey from the UK to Bruges and back went very smoothly and on time. Anyone looking for a few days away and a wonderful setting look no further than a trip to Bruges with Riviera.

We would just like to say how much we enjoyed the four days that we spent in Bruges recently, the journey went very smoothly, the Academie hotel was excellent, one of the nicest I have stayed in for some considerable time and the staff were very helpful and the food good. We were most impressed with our tour guide Dave who could not have been more helpful and informative about the various places and trips that he took us on and we both had a brilliant time. We would definitely travel with you again.

We have just returned for another lovely trip with Riviera Travel. We travelled to Bruges and had three lovely relaxed days in a truly beautiful place. We were to be able to stroll around and enjoy the wonderful architecture, food and our hotel the Acamedie was excellent too. Very Central with lovely big rooms and breakfast was plentiful. Our guide Bernadette was great with lots of useful tips on where to go and the history of the surrounding area. The trip to the WW1 sites was our highlight (Sanctuary Wood is very very moving and well worth a visit) We had the chance to lay a special 100th Anniversary Wreath at the grave of our relative who was killed January 1915, a special moment. Thank you Riviera, once again, an excellent trip.

We were a party of 12, travelling to Bruges staying at the Academie Hotel which was excellent, quiet and great staff, with breakfast as good as anywhere we have stayed. Our Tour Manager, Pete Best was fantastic, great advice, great knowledge and good Yorkshire anecdotes. Pete gave great commentary on Bruges and the Great War fields, never too much but very knowledgeable on this tour. Our driver Ingrid was also excellent, adding to Pete they were a great team. This was our first Riviera Trip and will be booking a second very soon based on this experience. I would also praise the admin team at Riviera accommodating our changes. Great work guys ! - back soon.

I have just arrived home from my first trip with Riviera Travel and want to just let you know how impressed I was. The trip to Bruges was brilliant for many many reasons - the excursions were interesting and varied, the planning and timing of all the excursions were extremely well organised, (none of the trips felt too long or too short for what we were there to see) The Hotel -Martin’s Brugges- was great, it is modern, amazingly clean (.....and I am fussy - I checked EVERYWHERE) and the breakfasts were fantastic - so much choice, excellent quality of food and well cooked. The icing on the cake was Kay, our tour guide - she worked so hard- what a brilliant lady!! She gave us lots of interesting and useful information and tips, she reminded us of all the important things and ensured everything went as per plan so that we all got the most out of our City breaks. She really looked after us all so well, right from the very start….... to the very end. Thank you Riviera…..and thank you again Kay!

My wife and I have just returned from a wonderful trip to Bruges. Everything about the holiday was just right. The journey by Eurostar and coach transfer to Bruges went smoothly and our hotel was not only really nice, but was in one of the most attractive parts of the city. We were extremely well looked after by Chris, our courier, who was very well informed, superbly organised, helpful and approachable, and with a lovely sense of humour. Her helpful tips and advice made sure everyone got the best out of trips and visits. We thoroughly enjoyed the walk round Bruges, the visit to the brewery and the boat trip, as well as the day excursion to Ypres. This was our second holiday with Riviera, and we will definitely be coming back for more.

This was our second time in Bruges, both times with Riviera travel. The trip is so well organised and the Hotel Academie is in an excellent position with some really good restaurants within two minutes walk. The tour to Ypres is highly recommended as is the walking tour. Our tour guide Phillipa was excellent with a really good sense of humour. The tour is very good value for money and I would not hesitate to recommend it.

So glad I chose Riviera (again) for this Bruges trip. The itinerary was excellent, plenty of time to explore and yet it packed a lot in. I particularly enjoyed the Ypres tour day; very moving to see the trenches, the cemetery and the informative museum in Ypres. Tour manager Philippa was great, very knowledgeable but relaxed and friendly. She took a great deal of care to ensure that I could hear and participate even though I am very deaf. Hotel Academie was very good, though I didn’t spend much time in it! I definitely recommend this trip.

Have been back from Bruges for a few days now and still telling anyone who will listen what a fantastic time we had! The arrangements with Riviera were outstanding. This is the second trip with you and we chose you for that very reason. From getting on the train at our local station to arriving in Bruges, all the tours and the return journey - everything just runs like clockwork, making it so easy to just sit back and relax. Our tour manager Keith was a fountain of knowledge about the city and his walking tour was first class. A truly lovely gentleman. We stayed in the Martin’s Brugge hotel which was excellent. Spotlessly clean and great breakfast and service. It’s central location made our holiday even more enjoyable. We are already thinking of our next trip with Riviera. Thank you for your fantastic efforts and attention to the finer details that make it all worth while.

This was our first holiday with Riviera Travel - but it certainly won’t be our last! Everything on the tour ran like clockwork and our Tour Manager, Philippa, was very friendly and efficient and she made the tour more enjoyable with her knowledge and sense of humour. We stayed at the four star Academie Hotel which, whilst not in the centre of Bruges, has plenty of bars and restaurants close by, as well as a lovely park. The included walking tour of the town is done at a nice leisurely pace and the visit to Ypres is very informative and highly recommended. All in all, a lovely break and we will be back for more!

We were blessed with a perfect tour guide Annette who made the tour really interesting with her in depth knowledge of all the visits we made all sprinkled with her good humour. Thanks to the team at Riviera, we expect to be travelling with you again.

Just to say that my wife and I had a first-class short break to Bruges.
The Tour Manager Sue and driver Ingrid were extremely helpful in all aspects while the arranged (and voluntary) tours were most enjoyable and travel by Eurostar is always highly commendable.
Similarly with the St. Martins hotel, very good in all aspects - except one. Our room was at the front, adjacent to the Belfry. Nothing wrong with that except for the fact that the bells played Roses of Picardy alternating with It’s a Long Way to Tipperary every quarter of an hour. However, the bells did stop at eleven o’clock at night!
Thanks again for a good vacation

Last week i visited Bruges with one of your tour guides Paul (17-20/June/2015).
I went with my parents who have already done a trip with yourselves to Lake Garda and loved. This was my first with yourselves. At 33 I was the youngest bar 1 in the group. I had the best time ever! It was a fantastic trip and I am already looking to do another trip with you (New Zealand would be ideal, but money wise more likely Paris/Spain!). Paul was an excellent guide, very friendly, very informative and just an overall wonderful person. He is a credit to your business and I would like to pass on my thanks at making my first guided trip such an amazing one. He really did make the trip! I have spoken with friends since I have come back who have visited Bruges -on chatting with them, they didn’t know half the facts/tips that we learnt with Paul. He was great with all ages and walking abilities in our group ensuring everyone go the full experience and care. Thank you so much to Paul!

Just returned from a brilliant trip to Bruges. Everything was so well organised from when I made the original booking through to arriving home. I saw and did so much during the four days and yet I never felt rushed. All the visits allowed just the correct amount of time at each place. Chris was our tour manager and nothing was too much trouble for her. The visit to Tyne Cot cemetery was very moving and Ypres was a lovely town. The Flanders Field museum was very informative. Hotel Academie was excellent with a delicious breakfast. This is my second tour with Riviera and it certainly won’t be my last. I am already looking at next year’s brochure!

We have just returned from a most uplifting experience in Bruges. This tour was recommended to us by Andrew’s sister, Mary, (12 July 2015). No attention to detail was spared and we cannot thank Max, our tour guide, enough for his diligence and care to one an all on the tour, and for sharing his wealth of knowledge with us. Thank you to Bruno our driver, who also added some local knowledge of interest, and to Phillipe for getting us back to Lille safely. The Martins Brugge Hotel is in a great location, and all the staff there were more than friendly and helpful. This was our first, but not last, trip with Riviera Travel. It was just perfect. We also really like the chat option, before going I used this and I must say your adviser Mitchell was very helpful and clarified for us that the travel across London from Paddington to St Pancras was including on our rail ticket.
We are now looking to book with you again for next May for the tour of Croatia and I will use your website to check on availability.

Have just returned from your wonderful Bruges tour. The whole experience was positive. Bruges itself is beautiful more so than I had realised, you get chocolate with everything and the people were all extremely friendly…...perfect! I must comment on how well organised everything was but in particular must mention our Guide, Pete. His love of the city was plain to see. He was mine of information on absolutely everything, seemed to know everybody and somehow managed to gently steer us around without making us feel back at school. A great holiday, thanks Pete!

Short trip to Bruges, staying at the Acadamie. This is the second time we’ve stayed here, the first time several years ago. The location is perfect, close to all the main sites of interest but far enough away from the main squares not to be disturbed by any noise. The tour was expertly managed by our guide Pete, who was informative and always attentive. A great job done. We’ve been with Riviera on a number of trips over many years and have always found them to be well organised and professional. Despite making a mistake when we booked (our error), the staff made extensive efforts to rebook us at no extra cost. Not something we would expect from any other company. Riviera is highly recommended.

Returned yesterday from this wonderful tour, although a short trip it was superb, our tour manager, Ross, was excellent. Wonderful sense of humour, very knowledgable. This wonderful city deserves more days to explore, so we look forward to a return trip. Our hotel was very good, plenty of choice at breakfast and within easy walking distance of the main square. Our seats were reserved on all four train journeys, and we found your booking staff very obliging. Would travel with your company again.

Somewhat belatedly, I would like to express how highly we regarded our short trip to Bruges into which so much was packed . The journeys were absolutely spot on in terms of prior organisation and punctuality. The prior holiday information was excellent as was the hotel (Hotel Academie) which was way beyond our expectations. Furthermore, the attention given by the tour manager, Jean-Marie was the most informative, committed and sensitive that we have ever experienced - which is out of many, over the years. We shall use Riviera again.

Unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to say a final thanks to our Riviera representative, Dave. Bruges was fabulous. Hotel Acadamie was excellent. We were lucky with the weather but most of all we were extremely lucky with our tour guide Paul. Paul was always available to direct, encourage or take us on our excursions. He had a fund of knowledge and lovely stories. Four of of us travelled to celebrate birthdays and we had a really great time. I am so glad to see in yesterday’s “The Times” that you had won the ” Best escorted tour operator award” very well deserved. All best wishes, Ann and Colin Clark.

We visited Bruges from 6th -9th September. Rosey, our guide was excellent in providing interesting information and clear instructions as to when to meet for the various tours. The main purpose of our visit, was to see the first World war memorials. I think, to allow sufficient time to see all the things on the schedule, a full day should be allocated to this, with the morning boat trip, though interesting, being brought forward to the day before.

I would like to congratulate you on your tour manager Chris, unfortunately on arrival I needed to see a doctor quite quickly and it was Sunday. Chris managed to get it sorted in a very efficient way and escorted me to the doctors and then to a pharmacy I couldn’t have asked for better attention. Apart from that she was also able to give us a lot of information over and above the usual facts relative to the various trips and made it a very enjoyable experience.

A much enjoyed first experience of your company and we will certainly return.

Academie Hotel accommodation very good and the Tour Manager, Peter, was very helpful and undertook his duties with humour and effeciency - well done Peter! Bruges itself is an interesting town and the visits to the Brewery and Chocolate making added to the interest of the town. The visits to Sanctuary Wood, Hill 62 and Ypres were thought provoking and very well planned and timed. An intesresting half hour on the canal boat enjoying the commentary of our witty and knowledgable “driver” and guide was a pleasant feature of our last day. Although the Academie Hotel did not serve evening meals, a really good choice at breakfast made a good start to the day and there were many restaurants to choose from, nearby to the hotel, for evening meal

His comments on various things, historical and otherwise, about Bruges got just the right balance between humour and scholarship. It was easy to listen to him. Sitting in the old town square at sunset watching the change as the sky slowly changed from Blue to a darker hue matches the same exprience as in the old town squares of Prague & Tallin. We thought the tour very good value for money and recommend it to any mature person for a short break

We have just returned from the Bruges tour and found it to be one of the best short breaks we have ever taken. Everything from start to finish was perfect for us, all the organisation was efficient but none fussy. Our first time on Eurostar and it was a dream, London to Lille in only 90 minutes. We stayed at the Hotel Academie and it was in a great location an easy 10/15 minute walk to the main Market Square but plenty of bars, good restaurants and shops right on the doorstep. Our room was lovely and clean and the buffet breakfast was of a good quality with plenty of choice both hot and cold. Our tour guide Annette was simply marvelous, she was extremely considerate to all members of the group and took the time to speak with everyone individually during our days together to ensure we were all getting the most from our visit. She was informative and interesting, a great ambassador for Riviera. This was our first time with Riviera but certainly will not be our last after this Belgium experience.

We are contacting you regarding our recent trip to Bruges 20th-23rd September. We had such a great time and the courier Brian was extremely pleasant and helpful and nothing was too much bother for him. The visits to the Brewery, chocolate factory and the canal boat trip were all very well planned and enjoyable. Many thanks especially to Brian.

Our second escorted tour with Riviera Travel to Bruges met all our expectations - a beautiful city, perfect for exploration on foot. The Hotel Academie had a great location near to the Minnewater; from which you could easily access the heart of the city. The time spent at Ieper, Tyne Cot and Hill 62 was interesting and very sobering. Many thanks to our guide, Pete, for explaining the City and its history so effectively and for suggesting places of particular interest to visit.

Just a word of thanks to Riviera for a most enjoyable four days in Bruges. The Academie Hotel was ideally located and the rooms clean and comfortable. Our guide Pete was very informative and helpful ensuring that we were all in the right place at the right time - not always an easy task! The visit to Ypres and the WW1 trenches was very moving and Pete’s succinct and accurate account of the events at that time was really excellent. In addition, we enjoyed the chocolate shop visit and the canal trip as well as the opportunity to explore this beautiful city on foot. We were both very impressed with Riviera and look forward to travelling with you again.

We have just returned from a lovely four day tour of Bruges. It was our first time with Riviera, and we were very impressed. The included tours and the hotel ( Golden Tree), were really excellent, and we have no complaints whatsoever. Our guide, Rosey, was very knowledgeable and efficient. We will defintely be looking to book another holiday with Riviera very soon.

This is my first trip with Riviera and on my own, therefore a little apprehensive. WHY? There was no reason to be. The tour, hotel and guide were all very good and Bruges is a lovely place. Now thinking about my second trip with you. Thanks Riviera.

Together with my partner Bob we went on the short break to Bruges. Our tour guide was Rosy. From start to finish this was a great trip. Rosy was magnificent throughout, explaining everything as we went, and giving us a great talk on the trip to Ypres. The Golden Tree Hotel was very good and in a perfect location, just a few mins walk to the city centre. We had considered taking the car and organising the trip ourselves, but are very very glad we went with Riviera instead. We can’t wait to do another city break with Riviera.

This was my second trip with Riviera to Bruges staying at the Academie again, the trip and hotel can be highly recommended. Our guide Peter was very informative and made the trip a great success. Having been before I did not do all the trips, instead visiting various parts I had not seen on my previous trip, joining the group trip to Hill 62, Tyne Cot and Ypres (Lepar) which is always a must, if a little moving. We were blessed by really good weather and a great group of people. I whole heartedly recommend this trip to anyone. Well done all concerned.

Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed my recent trip to Bruges with Riviera.
You were kind enough to let me transfer to this trip when a new job and lack of annual leave meant that I was unable to travel as planned but the excellent service did not stop there. I had great information in my itinerary which meant the new experience of travelling on Euro star was so simple. The pick up at Lille went smoothly (for those of us who had taken the time to read the pick up instructions) and we were met by our friendly guide Chris and our driver Bruno who delivered us to the St Martin’s Hotel, again a great choice- wonderful location, lovely room fantastic breakfast and very pleasant, helpful staff. Our orientation walk on the first evening helped get our bearings and the trip the next day did show Bruges at its best and was loaded with amusing and interesting facts. The brewery tour was something I was ambivalent about but was so glad I did as the guide on that was really great fun. For me the “highlight” of the trip, for very personal reasons, was the time spent at Ypres and at Tyne Cot, hard to believe what had gone on in such beautiful and peaceful surroundings. I can’t actually believe I fitted so much in and had loads of free time to explore by myself! Our tour guide retained her great sense of humour and stamina in the face of some challenging individuals and went out of her way to help everybody and ensure that we all got maximum enjoyment out of the trip. I am not sure if you set a guidance amount on tips for your tour managers (I have travelled extensively with another company that does) and I realise that you can’t be prescriptive or indeed force people to give when it is not their natural inclination to do so but I do think it might be an idea, if for no other reason than to avoid the ratting of (very) small change in some quarters on the way off the bus at the end of the trip. I had a great time, my only difficulty is which trip to choose next

I had a wonderful time on my tour at the Hotel Academie With my guide, Pete. Everything went smoothly from my starting point in Birmingham, train travel down to London, my First Eurostar experience to Lille and coach journey to Bruges. The suggestions of places to visit and restaurants to go to was invaluable and made our experience more enjoyable and we were encourage to do our own thing if we wanted. The hotel staff were wonderful and the room was very comfortable and positioned brilliantly with restaurants, walks and bars on our doorsteps. I can recommend the Vivaldi restaurant for the Flemish beef stew and the set meal at the Shanghai Chinese Restaurant round the corner. The trips were well thought out and interesting especially the day at Ypres which was poignant and thought provoking. The whole experience in Bruges was wonderful. A friend recommended Riviera Travel to me. I certainly enjoyed this holiday and can’t wait to book again in Europe next year. Thank you to Pete, our guide, who was wonderful and took all the stress out of the holiday.

Thank you for a very stimulating trip to Bruges. Organisation and communications were excellent and there was the right balance between group activity and “free time”. Bruges is beautiful and the guided walk was most enjoyable. The visit to Tyne Cot cemetery, Hill 62 and Ypres was interesting and very sobering, particularly at this time of year. The Brewery and Chocolate making experiences were hugely entertaining. Our guide, Peter, was clear very experienced and knowledgeable and the information and guidance he provided added a huge amount to the impact of the trip. The Academie is a hotel of good standard and, all in all, we were well looked after. A good trip!!!

As a lady travelling on her own, I chose a short tour as a taster. I need not have worried, from my initial train journey to London I found I was booked with fellow tour travellers. The journey to Bruges went just as planned and we met up with our very pleasant and knowledgeable tour guide. The hotel was excellent and centrally located and Bruges proved to be quite magical. We were guided around the memorable sites by our tour guide and this was followed by a day trip to the World War One battlefields and war graves, a very moving experience. Every detail of the visit was well planned with nothing left to chance and I would not hesitate in recommending Riviera Travel to other travellers. In fact I have just booked on the longer Moscow/St. Petersberg trip for 2016!

Our third trip with Riviera first time to Bruges but as usual a really enjoyable experience, Annette our guide was friendly, helpful and informative, the hotel Golden Trees was a really lovely place to stay, very clean and an excellent breakfast. All tours were exactly the right amount of time spent in each location and plenty of free time to explore.
We would thoroughly recommend this trip.

I recently went to Bruges with my mum for a short break (November 11th - 14th) . Our tour rep was Kay and she was fantastic - really organised, knew about the places we visited and the area we were staying in and was really pleasant and professional. Just wanted to pass on our praises and thanks to her.

My wife and I would just like to thank Riviera Travel for an excellent short break. This was the first time we had used this company and it all went like clockwork. No stress, just a very relaxing break. Our thanks go to our lovely tour guide Dave, who was very knowledgeable and thoughtful and ensuring everyone’s needs were met. We will definitely use this company again.

We have just returned from a three night stay in Bruges, organised by Riviera Travel. Right from the time of booking the trip to arrival back in England on Eurostar, we have been 100% impressed and satisfied with the service provided by Riviera Travel. The initial booklet produced by your Company “Passionate about travel” was very informative and useful. We were most impressed, whilst on the outward journey on Eurostar, when the Riviera Travel Tour Manager (Philippa) came into the carriage and located us individually, introduced herself and informed us of the procedures, once we arrived in Lille, for our transfer to the coach taking us to Bruges. The hotel where we were staying in Bruges, Martins Brugge, was located centrally with only a short walk to the main square. Even though only a three star hotel, Martins was perfectly adequate and provided a very comfortable refuge; the breakfasts were excellent with plenty of food of various types from continental to cooked. We’ve stayed at four and five star hotels in England where breakfasts are not as good as at Martins. The tours on foot and by coach, “hosted” by Philippa, were excellent. This is our fifth visit to Bruges but we saw new places of interest in Bruges which we didn’t know existed (our previous visits had been arranged independently) and we were truly fascinated and impressed by Philippa’s leadership. The highlight of our tour was Day 3 when we went, by coach, to Ypres and other places where First World War battles were fought, which left us feeling very humbled but eternally grateful for those who fought, and the many who died, for our freedom. Philippa gave presentations on the coach regarding the War; these were truly excellent and we were most impressed with her depth of knowledge; much of the information was totally new to us, such was the depth of her research. We were sad to leave Bruges…and Philippa, who was an inspiration right up to the time when we boarded Eurostar for our journey home. Thanks so much, Riviera Travel… and Philippa!
