Selected departures up to November 2019 & March to October 2020
Paris was, is and always will be, something rather special. So if you have an anniversary to celebrate, a family get together, want to say a thank you, or sorry to a loved one or maybe take a short break to recharge your batteries – why not take a few days with us in Paris. This inexhaustible city has something to offer everyone, whatever you are looking for.
Sightseeing? The list is endless. Notre Dame, the Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre, Champs Élysées, Sacré-Coeur, Eiffel Tower and much, much more. During the day you can visit fine shops such as the Galeries Lafayette and the smart arcaded Rue de Rivoli. Here you are only a short walk from the Louvre – home of the most well-known painting in the world, the Mona Lisa. The grandiose Place de la Concorde, largest square in the city, shows off 18th Century French architecture at its best and just over on the left bank you’ll find the Musée d’Orsay, home of the world’s finest Impressionist art collection. The eccentrically modern and yet stylish Pompidou Centre famous for, not only its exhibits, but street entertainment of the area too. The islands in the middle of the River Seine, dominated by the cathedral of Notre Dame and the delicate spire of the sublime Ste. Chapelle. Take a stroll through the famous Tuileries Gardens, especially spectacular during the spring. But to see everything at once, why not try a trip up the Eiffel Tower?
To get the feel of Paris you will visit old Montmartre, for this is the home of the artists and street entertainers. Picturesque squares where the eaves of the houses almost touch and the unmistakable smell of fresh coffee and croissants drifts from the numerous brasseries. Paris really comes into its own at night. Quite apart from the famous hot spots like Le Moulin Rouge, Lido and Paradis Latin there are quieter and more romantic areas. If you visit the Latin Quarter, one of the oldest areas of the city, there are hundreds of restaurants and competition ensures keen prices, together with very good quality. There is so much to see and do, you will leave Paris with sore feet, but once having had a taste you will always want to come back for more. It is everything you imagine it to be, romantic, inspiring, vibrant even outrageous, but best of all Paris is unique – come with us and see.
We take the Eurostar service with our tour manager from London St Pancras to Paris Gare du Nord. The Eurostar takes you to the heart of the city, a coach will then take you to the three-star Ibis Bercy Village Hotel.
This evening we will gather with our tour manager for the short walk to our restaurant for a lovely welcome dinner, where you will get a chance to meet other travellers joining the tour on their own.
After breakfast, the coach will take you on a comprehensive sightseeing tour of the city, during which you will see L’Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower, Champs Élysées, River Seine, the Louvre, in fact almost every famous landmark you will have ever heard of. You then leave Paris to take the short drive to Versailles where you can visit the majestic palace home of Louis XIV and the typically provincial French market town of Versailles itself. This visit will end mid-afternoon after which the coach will take you back to Paris so you can spend the remainder of the afternoon as you wish, either shopping or more sightseeing.
During the evening, the coach will take you on a tour of Paris ‘By Night’. The whole city’s a work of art with monuments and buildings illuminated in the most tasteful manner, their reflections dancing on the River Seine with the majestic Eiffel Tower dominating the skyline: it looks so delicate it could almost be made of lace. The tour does not take up the whole evening so you also have time to perhaps sample some of the famous Parisian nightlife.
This morning, after breakfast the coach will then take you to one of the most picturesque and atmospheric quarters of Paris, Montmartre, home of the artists and street entertainers, with of course the whole area dominated by the white domed basilica of the Sacré-Coeur. You will have time to wander among Montmartre's charming cobbled streets and see such sights as the Moulin Rouge, where Toulouse-Lautrec found most of his models; Vincent Van Gogh’s and Renoir’s houses; the famous club of the Lapin Agile; the oldest vineyard in Paris and many other interesting sights.
This afternoon you are free to sightsee in this beautiful city as you wish, so what is it to be? Perhaps a trip up the Eiffel Tower, a cruise on the Seine, a browse amongst the antique shops, a wander around the picturesque gardens, window shopping or take your time to visit Paris’ incredible range of attractions. This evening you have the opportunity to visit one of the best cabarets in the city, the stunning Paradis Latin (full details of this excursion will be sent with your confirmation).
After a leisurely start to the day, the coach will return you to the Gare du Nord station to take an early afternoon Eurostar service, (exact time will be given on travel documents), arriving at London St Pancras International approximately 2 hours 15 minutes later.
The price of this holiday is per person, based on one person in a double/twin room for sole occupancy. To help you enjoy your holiday to Paris even more, on your free evening we are able to arrange tickets for arguably the best cabaret in the city - the stunning Paradis Latin! The theatre itself was built by Gustave Eiffel, designer of the tower which so dominates Paris, in 1889. The present owners bought the superb old building in 1973, and after a total restoration to its former glory opened to a grateful and appreciative French nation four years later. Since then more than one and a half million visitors from all over the world, including such celebrities as: Dustin Hoffman, Omar Sharif, Shirley Bassey, Steven Spielberg, Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn, have enjoyed this superb show. It really is the best cabaret, or ‘spectacle’ as the French call it, in Paris - a fact borne out that the full show was shown live on French television on New Year’s Eve - a rare honour, but one which indicated the quality of the performance.
After making your own way to the theatre, the evening commences with a fine three course dinner which includes half a bottle of vintage wine. Then experience the show and as the Paradis Latin caters for an international audience, you do not need to speak French to appreciate it. After the show, make your own way back to the hotel.
Make the most of your time in Versailles and pre-book a timed-entry visit, which provides priority admission to the magnificent palace – where you’ll find the royal apartments and Hall of Mirrors – and the outstanding gardens. You’ll receive an audio guide so you can explore at your own pace.
The ticket price is £36pp for visits from May to October, while the price for visits in November and on the 1st August departure is £27pp.
These experiences cannot be booked online, please contact us to pre-book or for more information.
