Designed to bring guests closer to nature, the modern MS Fram is equipped with the most advanced technology to make her exceptionally suited for expedition voyages in the polar regions. Built in 2007, she will be newly refurbished for 2020 with new suites and cabins, more environmentally friendly engines and improved public areas, including new restaurants and a signature high-tech science centre, packed with state-of-the-art technology and gadgets. Natural Scandinavian materials, such as granite, oak, birch and wool, will be used to create a stylish look and feel, adding to the superb on-board experience.

The ship is purpose-built with a higher ice-class, chart drawing tools, depth-sounding database, extractable forward-sounding sonar, iceberg search lights, autonomous tracking system, oversized oil retention system, and a full expedition tools deck equivalent to a car deck that holds 25 vehicles.

Deck Plan

Deck two holds the tender area where we embark, fully dressed in suitable expedition and excursion gear, on robust Polarcirkel boats, which are designed for extreme conditions to take us safely from ship to shore.

Deck three is where you’ll find the Category N Polar outside cabins and one Category F2 Arctic Superior outside cabin.

Deck four has the ship’s two restaurants, Lindstrom and Aune, split across different levels so wherever your table is placed, there are views of the great outdoors. Mealtimes are usually served buffet-style and afternoon tea is served in the panoramic lounge. There is a self-service bistro with complimentary tea, coffee and hot chocolate. At the far end of the restaurant, there is a balcony for taking photographs should wildlife make an appearance during your meal. On your way to the restaurant, there is an exhibition of original artefacts from the historic expeditions of Amundsen and Nansen.

You’ll also find the Fram Science Centre which holds the library of over 8,000 books. There are fascinating daily lectures on culture, nature and history, held in the ship’s two lecture halls on deck four. The reception area is located on this deck too.

Deck five holds more Category F2 Arctic Superior outside cabins, Category U Arctic Superior outside cabins and Category I Polar inside cabins. An observation area wraps around the front perimeter of the deck.

Deck six is where you’ll find Category I Polar inside cabins and Category U Arctic Superior outside cabins.

Deck seven hosts the forward-facing Explorer observation lounge and bar featuring large panoramic windows, offering incredible views. A pair of binoculars is installed for spotting wildlife and details of the ever-changing scenery.

There are two outdoor hot tubs in the observation area plus a well-equipped fitness centre with panoramic ocean views.

Deck eight is the observation deck with comfortable outdoor seating.
