I'm 75 and haven't had a holiday since 2012, I've been widowed for over 3 years and desperately want to get away on holiday but have no one to go with. I love Tenerife in May but am really not fussy where I go as long as its warm but not too hot. What's putting me off going is having no one to have meals with, especially dinner, I could cope alone for breakfast and lunch, but not dinner. I like excursions but not every day sitting on a coach. I'm not very mobile and can't walk far, I'm also not a great sunbather but am happy to sit and read in the shade or just stroll around, preferably near the sea.

Any suggestions please?

Dear Selina,

Whilst we are primarily an escorted tour company, and therefore have included excursions on most of our days on tour, they are not obligatory by any means. Therefore I can think of two tours in particular that could fit your requirements, where we are based for the entire duration of the stay in a single hotel close to the beach (so that you can either choose to go on a tour with the group, or relax in the immediate surroundings of the hotel and its town). Both of the tours are half board, and so dinner is provided for the group together, so you would always have company

The first is our Montenegro's Riviera and Dubrovnik tour. We stay for 7 nights in Budva, a lovely seaside town that has plenty of old world charm. Our day tours include trips to magical Dubrovnik, just over the border in Croatia; a relaxing cruise on lake Skadar, the largest lake in the Balkans and very rich in birdlife; and a visit to a local vineyard. The second tour is to Madeira. The climate is very similar to Tenerife, though the atmosphere is more relaxed and laid back. We stay at a lovely 5-star hotel with great ocean views and superb facilities, and again with the option of a number of daily excursions to various sights on the island.

Please be aware that this Madeira tour has not yet gone on sale, but should be available by the second half of July, although the excursions on offer are similar to our existing tour to Madeira (albeit to a different hotel).

I hope the above tours suit your tastes. And if you have any other questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Best regards,

Erik.
