Hi all. My name is Lynne and I am 64 years old. I lost my husband over 9 years ago and so desperately want to seek out a new holiday and possibly meet new friends. I have no idea where to start so can you please help. I don't particularly want to be totally alone on holiday

Dear Lynne,

We will definitely try our best to help you out. I would say first of all that many of our clients are in a very similar position to yourself, and that travelling with like-minded people is what attracts people to our tours. I remember going on our solo Normandy tour earlier this year and by the end of the tour 4 people, who had not known each other before the tour started, had already booked together on a cruise with us for next year!

Obviously we have a wide variety of different tours on offer and I am not aware of your preferences, but I would generally suggest, if it is your first trip in a while, and would like to "test the waters", to initially go for one of our shorter city breaks. Between now and mid November we have a number of departures, either for our 4-day Bruges trip (from £299), 5-day Berlin and Dresden tour (from £719), and 5-day Normandy trip (from £749).

If you want you can call our lovely reservations department (on 01283 888 196) who will be more than happy to advise you on the different tours and answer any questions you may have. Or if you want you can ask your questions here via the forum and I will help as best I can.

Best regards,

Erik.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I am 61 and lost my husband last year. I’m going on the the tour to Bruges in October. I’m nervous but thought a short trip would ease me into it. Hope you decide to take the plunge. I will let you know how it goes.

Hi Everyone
I'm a first timer and really nervous about solo travel. Being in my early 50's, personal circumstances have changed my life. Never in a million years did I ever think I'd be considering independent travel but I'm here, today and now. Think I'd like to take a short trip in the fist instance, for example hopping from one train to another without the opportunity of 'getting lost'. Any advice appreciated X

Hi Linda,

First of all welcome to the solos forum here at Riviera Travel. As I wrote to Lynne earlier in this thread, we have a number of short trips, ideal for "testing the waters" of solo escorted travel. A number of them are even accessed by train from the UK for those who are fans of travelling by train or are uneasy with air travel. I would recommend either our 4-day trips to Paris or Bruges (prices from £469 for next year), or our 5-day trip to Normandy (from £699), all of which use the Eurostar departing from Saint Pancras. And to ensure that you don't "get lost" our tour managers will be travelling with you from London. Plus on the first evening of each tour there is a drinks reception and dinner so that you can get to meet your fellow travellers.

For any more advice please do not hesitate to call our reservations team who would be glad to answer any questions you may have.

Erik.

Dear Happygirl,

Welcome to the Riviera Travel solos forum. I must admit that we don't have many departures from the island of Ireland for our solo tours. We do, however, have a solo Classical Spain tour departing in April with flights from and to Dublin. Otherwise, if your heart is set on Portugal we do have a number of departures from Dublin (sorry, none from Belfast - we're at the mercy of the airlines here) for our standard Portugal tour (link below). Please be aware though that this is not a solos only tour and so there will be a single supplement to pay on top of the advertised price.

Hope this helps,

Erik.
