Good to see a few people have started joining up here now. How about a bit of discussion, where are people's top 3 destinations that you have been?

mine are

1 - Alhambra in Spain - I went on my honeymoon 31 years ago and I revisited a few years ago with a couple of friends and it is every bit as amazing as the first time

2 - Banff National Park - I went to Canada earlier this year and Banff was probably the highlight - amazing pictures even though it was a bit cloudy!

3 - Brandenburg Gate in Berlin - I vividly remember seeing the scenes on TV back in the late 80s, when I went a couple of years ago it all came flooding back - so incredible to be stood right there on that spot

what about everyone else?

how can you possibly narrow it down to 3!? OK, I will have a go...

1 Dartmoor - I grew up here and still live just a short drive away and it is very special to me and my family and it is also very beautiful
2 Cape Town - my late husband used to work in South Africa and so I would go over once a year to stay with him and just used to love relaxing in Cape Town - it has a bit of everything
3 Barcelona - I have been twice now and I like how bustling it is and there is always something interesting happening

I'd second Cape Town, I went in 2012 with Virgin. great city. Also add to that Abu Simbel in Egypt and the Masai mara in Kenya (Can you guess I'm an Africa fan?)

Ooh great question!

I went to Tallinn a couple of years back. Very nice place, like going back in time.

I'd have to say Rome just because there is so much to see.

Last but not least I would say San Francisco just because I enjoyed Alcatraz so much!

I have only really been on beach type holidays so my experiences aren't as varied as some. I do like Lagos in Portugal though, lots of very nice coastline and rose wine there! I have been to Paris which was very good too.

Machu Picchu was awesome plus the floating islands on Lake Titicaca. Loved touring New Zealand for incredible scenery and wildlife. The Maldives for brilliant snorkelling. Could go on but restricted to 3.

I loved India on honeymoon, Peru for the amazing variety of interesting places and Paris/Amsterdam/St Petersburg for the art. (a bit oif a cheat I know!) Thinking of a 'special interest' art hol but they are INCREDIBLY expensive. Riviera may be my answer? Also keen to go on safari / birdwatching but many hols eg in S Africa seem lots of eating and looking at gardens./ plantations/ local crafts and not much actual game viewing

Any advice/ recommended trips fellow solo travellers?

Vienna - almost my home from home
Calabria - the "toe" of Italy
Puglia or Apulia - the "heel" of Italy
